I have "Rush..." and think it's a pretty decent album. I haven't heard "Parachutes" but have heard people rave about it. What do you think?

1. the only one we have is
"A Rush of Blood to the Head", it took six months to grow on me enough so that I'd choose to listen to it rather than passively grumble in the passenger seat of the Mrs. McLargehugemobile.

4. sorry for the short answer
it's a lot more "guitar" driven if that helps (whereas rush of blood has a lot more keyboards on it). the first 1/2 of parachutes is really, really good (and there are some good songs on the 2nd half), although i'd say the 2nd half of rush of blood is actually better than the 2nd half of parachutes (i.e. more consistent songwriting, better songs IMHO). overall tho, definitely would go with parachutes:)

5. skip coldplay
get some travis instead (The Man Who or The Invisible Band)

I'm actually not into either group, but I think travis is stronger.

or just start listening to older Yo La tengo, something like "I can hear the heart beating as one"

8. I have several Travis CDs
They are great. I think they're excellent songwriters. And good vocals.

6. "Parachutes" is infinitely better.
It's a much more quiet, reserved album, where "Rush of Blood" is a tad more bombastic. I think Chris Martin's voice just lends itself more to quieter songs like "Yellow" and "Spies" than to loud stadium-fillers like "Clocks".

Both albums are good, but I like the first one much more.

7. Both albums are good in their own way...
you'll find a lot of haters... They're a good band for a certain mood.

I'd agree with the consensus that "Parachutes" is the better of the two. Generally it's more subtle & moody - if ya dig that (which I do) B-)
