Twice today it's happened that when I go onto DU, after a few minutes I see my mouse blinking furiously and then 20 or more copies of Internet Explorer open and other things happen as well.
I've run a Norton virus scan on my computer, even did a search to see if any new .exe files made their way onto my computer (none did), and even looked through the task manager to see if anything nefarious is happening.
I suspect there's some kind of bad script somewhere here. Has anyone else had a similar experience today?
(After typing this, the "virus" or whatever put in a hundred or so returns, and I had to exit IE and go back into the message and edit it.)

Try Spybot S&D or AdAware to get rid of it.
Switch to Firefox.

10. Total agreement re Firefox. |

A neighbor installed it for me over the weekend and I could kiss his feet.
Instead I bought him a case of beer.

5. Maybe you have spyware/ad aware on your computer |
|
Have you scanned with spybot or Adaware?
YOu can't get a virus from a website--but you can experience weird IE stuff if you have adaware or spyware installed.

6. It sounds like you've been hijacked |

Possibly some type of spyware, Did it change your homepage? or add a "search" bar to the toolbar ? Or shortcuts on the desktop ? Install and run these: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlhttp://www.lavasoft.de/Then, STOP using IE !!! Get Mozilla Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Enjoy !

I have both spybot and adaware. I'll run those and hopefully that will find the cause. I guess maybe it is time to switch to mozilla.

9. HijackThis will help if those don't |
|
It's an easy download to find, if not the most self-explanatory program to use. Ask for advice here before using it.

Remember to update the reference file for AdAware (ie, run the Web Update). Unless you got Spybot in the last month or so, you'll need to download the new version. Dunno why, but it won't tell you that a new version is available. (They're up to ver 1.3)
