Friend of mine sent me a .mp3 file, said it was Van Halen, during the time with David Lee Roth.
It was, it was them singing a capella, "Happy Trails."
I nearly died laughing.

1. Last song on Diver Down |
|
There's also another great cover on that album, "Big Bad Bill"
Well, I went down yonder in Louisville Lived a cat named Big Bad Bill I wants ta tell ya Ah, the cat was rough and tough he would strut his stuff
Had the whole town scared to death When he walked by, they all held their breath He's a fightin' man, sure enough And then Bill got himself a wife, now he leads a different life
Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now Married life done changed him somehow He's the man the town used to fear Now they all call him Sweet Papa Willy Dear Stronger than Sampson I declare 'Til a brown-skinned woman's bobbed his hair
Big Bad Bill don't fight anymore (No, no, no) He's doin the dishes an' moppin' up that floor (Yes he is) Well he used to go out drinkin' lookin' for a fight Now he gotta see that sweet woman every night Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now
Aw, play it boys
(Clarinet Solo)
Aw, yeah!
Whoo! I likes that, yeah ("Yeah," say I)
Ah, y-well, Big Bad Bill don't fight anymore (No, he don't) He's doin' the dishes 'n moppin' up that floor (Yes he is) Well he used to go out drinkin' lookin' for a fight Now he gotta see that sweet woman every night
Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now (Doin' the dishes) Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now (Moppin' up that floor!) Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now
Cha! Yeah!

2. Big Bad Bill is great! |
|
Jan Van Halen (Eddie and Alex's dad) is the guy playing the clarinet.
Van Halen covering a song like "Big Bad Bill" is like Cream and their song "Anyone For Tennis" - completely different and unexpected!
Cream - "Anyone For Tennis"
Twice upon a time in the valley of the tears The auctioneer is bidding for a box of fading years And the elephants are dancing on the graves of squealing mice. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice?
And the ice creams are all melting on the streets of bloody beer While the beggars stain the pavements with flourescent Christmas cheer And the Bentley driving guru is putting up his price. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice?
And the prophets in the boutiques give out messages of hope With jingle bells and fairy tales and blind colliding scopes And you can tell that all they're saying underneath the pretty lies. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice?
The yellow Buddhist monk is burning brightly at the zoo You can bring a bowl of rice and then a glass of water too And fate is setting up the chessboard while death rolls out the dice. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice? :smoke:

4. Back in the days when Van Halen was fun to listen to. |
|
Nowadays Van Halen is really crap.
Their most recent album landed with a leaden thud on the record charts.

5. They should have called it quits a long time ago, |
|
like right after "Diver Down"! I didn't particularly care for "1984" in 1984, and my opinion has not changed in the 20(!) years leading up to 2004.
Don't like Van Hagar either.
