Check out what happened to my friends...
They were flipping through the newspaper the other day when they saw an advertisment saying the house they are currently renting is to be auctioned off (the owner owes taxes).

Nice way to find out isn't it?

So now they're dodging the landlord because they aren't paying rent until they find out what is going on.

1. Maybe they can buy the house ?
Don't pay the rent,(or drink it either) then use the money to put a bid on the house ! They might get lucky and get it for back taxes !

5. OUCH !
That's a lotta dough ! Must be a nice place ? It would be sweet if they could snag it ! But, you have to wonder if it has any liens on it, besides the unpaid taxes.

3. I bought a house like that
It wasn't taxes, it was the mortgage. Had no idea the owners weren't paying. We ended up being able to pay closing costs and pick up the payments. Maybe they should check into it. And I wouldn't pay the rent either, until I knew how long I had a place to live.

6. Holy Yehuda!
What a blast of cold air up yer skirt. Best of luck to them. Maybe the purchasing scenario could work out... perhaps a call to a property lawyer to flesh out their options (or at least obligations due to this news)?
