My mom (82) just had a stroke.
They are considering putting her on a helicopter and flying her to Atlanta. My radiologist brother is at his beach house in Florida, where we were all to meet on Friday for a family get-together, and is in touch with the radiologists doing the work-up. I am soaked with sweat (it is 55-F here in the mountains) and shaking like a leaf. My B/P jumped to 210/115.

However, I cannot do anything but watch the debates and wait for the phone to ring.

10. Special prayer for you and your family:
"Prayer of Protection"
The Light of God surrounds you, your mother, her medical staff, and your entire family.
The Love of God enfolds you, your mother, her medical staff, and your entire family.
The Power of God protects you, your mother, her medical staff, and your entire family.
The Presence of God watches over you, your mother, her medical staff, and your entire family.
Wherever you, your mother, her medical staff and your entire family are, God Is.
And all is well.
Thank you for this truth, oh Lord.
Amen.

12. My 90-year old mother had a stroke last year and guess what?
She pulled through fine. She is as fiesty as ever.

When they took her to the hospital she was out of it. For 2 days, we didn't know what was going to happen. Scary. Then she just "woke up" and said "where am I?"

She recovered fine.

My prayers to you.

13. Sweetie, you're going to be doing her any good having a stroke yourself...
Please take some deep breaths and think about what she would want you to do right now. Please take care of yourself. I'm so sorry your mother is ill right now. And I'm going to get down and pray for her right now. Please relax. Take care of yourself. We'll be praying for your family, Demo.

15. God bless you....
I discovered that one of my best friends had been killed in a car wreck on election day 1988. He was 29. I sat and stared at the set but I don't remember much.

Again. God bless...

18. Don't think the worst, honey. My dad had one and the medicines and
care available to limit damage and help people are tremendous. Keep good thoughts, honey, and don't take worst case scenario as gospel. People are tough. I will think good thoughts for all of you.

19. My thoughts are with you, your mother and your family.
The sooner her treatment, the better the odds for recovery. Depending on how serious the stroke was, I hope -- for your peace of mind -- that they airlift her to Atlanta.

Please keep us updated. And try to calm down. I know how upsetting it is. My mother is 92 and has health problems, no strokes, but all those times in the ER with her are draining.

24. You be careful too
your B/P is stroke material too-your mom and your family need you to be well-take some deep breaths and find someway to lower your OWN B/P. kittens, puppies, don't chew gum-if you have meds for b/p you've been neglecting, now's the time to take it.

take care, and my best hopes for your mom's speedy recovery...

28.  I just got some modicum of good news from my radiologist brother.
All the scans indicate a TIA. I talked to mom on the telephone a few minutes ago. She sounded great. However, Dr. Brother says that she is in a danger zone. He compared it to Mt. St. Helens. Thanks for the encouraging words, DUers. We love you all!

30. My mother had a stroke in the car with me
If i can be of any support...just let me know. Not all stokes
are fatal. Hang in the DemoTex till you know the serverity. My mother had a balance problem for awhile after.......but she fully
recovered at age 85. After the stoke.......the Dr. recomended her
having her carotid arteries in the neck cleaned and she has never
had one since and going strong at age 90.
Praying for your mothers recovery, stay strong and know that your
D.U.ers support you.
Keep us informed.

33. My mom had a TIA. Perhaps its her blood pressure. Mom's was so
tiny you could put it on the head of a pin. I saw the CATS and they had to point it out.
