As for myself, in the year or so I've been on DU, I've used it once for a week, then felt vaguely embarassed. I'm not judging anyone, though.

I just like my Lounge CLEAN, and free of excessive repetitive annoyance.

Call me anal retentive, or an asshole, or even lazy, but it is laughable to say someone as confrontational as myself puts people on ignore due to cowardice. I thrive on confrontation.

But I hate wading through muck and teen angst (from adults yet), just to read the fun and good stuff. So fuck the whole lot of 'em. Ignore, baby!

I'd say I have a pretty good track record. One of them, though, was an obvious freeper troll and I can't believe it took that long (a year or so) to kick him out. He was one of them 1000+ post trolls too :eyes:

Top that, fuckers! Maybe only 3 or 4 are tombstoned, based on who I see when we have Defcon 2 or whatever that is on debate nights.

For varied reasons I do this. But the rarest is for someone I disagree with. I love engaging intelligent people of diverse opinions. I have people I agree with on ignore much higher in number, simply because they irritate the bejeezus out of me for OTHER reasons, and I don't want to be banned for good when I tell them off.

The most common reason - spamming the Lounge with 'ask me anything' threads, excessive copycatting, shit grammar, incoherence, drunkeness, or just, well, for being a dumbshit.

And yes, I am a Grade A Asshole. I love the ignore button more than any feature on DU other than the PM box.

I put a bunch on ignore during the primaries. When the primaries ended, I went in to clean out the list, and discovered that 2/3 had been tombstoned. ;-) I restored all but one; the very first person I ever put on ignore.

Not because of any flames; just annoying. I should go in and make a clean slate of that one, too. I hardly ever see "ignored" posts in any of the threads I spend time in. I think I'll try now, if the level 4 restrictions allow me to!

They may or may not go back on, so I'm back down to one.

55. I have two folks on ignore...

It definitely started in the meeting room which is primarily a spiritual arena. I have been personally attacked by both of these individuals. I feel that they continuously interrupt the "positive vibe" of some of the threads and I emailed the administrators and told them I felt these guys were way out of line. I was told to simply put them on ignore, so I did. I hate to say it but one of these guys is just NASTY-It's almost unbelievable. My only conclusion is that he's just a really unhappy person who's only satisfaction is demeaning others - it's kind of pitiful and I actually feel sorry for him (but that doesn't mean I'll take him off of ignore).

My favorite thing about ignore is that you have full control over your DU landscape or environment - if someone is fouling it up with negative vibes or nastiness - poof! Clean it. Just like anti-virus software cleans bad bugs from your hard drive.

Peace of mind is a worthy ideal.

I am amazed at the people who don't use ignore judging those of who do as if it's a character weakness. I didn't know that electronically wiping out assholes was a flaw. Call me flawed!

As I said in a post above, I laugh at people who are so judgmental at those of us who like sculpting DU to our liking. If you want to wade through crap, you go right ahead.

Our freedom to choose how we shape this board is part of what makes it the best forum on the internet.

it seems there are some who just like to antagonize. They seem bent on getting others messages deleted. I have seen one in particular where my message was deleted and then notice the same thing happen to others.

So in order to remain on DU, I find it necessary to stay out of conversations with some people. So it is self-preservation.

And I just don't need to argue or get angst over some people and their comments. Most of their comments reflect them, but they have a hook, that sometimes, I just can't seem to stay away from. So I remember ignore.

I love that feature - it saves me from embarassing moments and keeps me in the community
