My son and my father went up to B.C. this week to visit some of my son's relatives. My Dad goes to a bar, maybe bar and grill type thing, I dunno. Requests Bourbon. The pretty young bartender, according to my dad, kinda stood around, twirling her hair, and finally asked her manager "what's Bourbon?" He told her and my dad got his drink. He asked her why didn't she know what Bourbon was, and she said "well around here they mostly drink beer" To be fair, the hard stuff came out of some kind of automatic dispenser in this place.

Does this count? Hockey isn't the national sport of Canada. The official national sport of Canada is lacrosse... which looks like hockey to me, except that it has little nets on the end of the stick, it's not played on ice and the players are allowed to high stick.

Now Lacrosse is the official summer sport and hockey is the official winter sport....odd cause neither is really played in summer

I've had back bacon but usually in the States.

Bourbon is not a popular drink in Canada, although I would venture that most places serve it. Rye is much more common.

My family is from very remote northern Minnesota, and actually snuck into the States from Canada about 100 years ago, so I have a fairly decent affinity for the Great White North. Well, as much of an affinity as you can have as an American, anyway.

But still, for the life of me, I simply cannot understand Newfies. Do they really speak English? Are they brain-damaged? Has so much isolation caused their gene pool to stagnate?
