How to annoy any/all NASCAR fans you might know/meet/be. |
|
Say "SpongeBobSquarePants Movie 300."
And then laugh.
And laugh.
And laugh.
(yeah, that's the name of the race. they're advertising it on TNT every 20 minutes)

I could care less what they call that race. I do know more than one or two avid NASCAR fans who are also hard core Democrats.

However, that said, the name of the race this weekend is pretty bad.

Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:53 AM by No2W2004
not that anyone ever knows what they are....who the hell wants to say I'm gonna see the:
Goody's Headache Powder 200 Diamond Hill Plywood Co. 200 Stater Bros. 300 presented by Gatorade Goulds Pumps ITT Industries. Salute to Troops 250 pres. by Dodge Stacker 2 Hundred presented by YJ Stinger Mr. Goodcents 300 Lowe's presents The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 Sam's Town 'He Dared To Rock' 250
Most people just mention the track name anyway.
And as far as the tax cut:
......The package also provides benefits for a wide range of groups, from native Alaskan whalers, importers of Chinese ceiling fans, NASCAR race track owners (note: or any race track owner) and residents of states without state income taxes, who would be able to deduct state and local sales taxes from their federal tax returns. The measure includes a $10.1 billion buyout for tobacco farmers (www.jayski.com)

The cars driven in NASCAR aren't nascars. They are stock cars. I don't want the redneck wing of NASCAR fans making fun of you.

|
How about the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (mmmmmmmmm.. does that come with rice?), the McDonald's Heritage Bowl, the OurHouse.com Florida Citrus Bowl, the Fed Ex Orange Bowl, or my all-time favorite, the Poulan/Weed Eater Independence Bowl?

corporate dollars these days. Just take a look at some of the corporate sponsorships in NASCAR. Better yet, look at the LACK of corporate sponsorship this season. Our "president" may be able to sell "the economy is great" bullshit with some people, but it's painfully obvious it's far from true when sponsorship in NASCAR is down.

Don't laugh...each branch of the armed forces sponsors a car in one NASCAR series or another. Do you know how much money would have to be spent on a primary sponsorship in Nextel Cup? 10 to 20 million dollars a season. How much body armor would that buy our troops? http://www.nascar.com/2004/kyn/nascar_101/05/20/team_costs/

Army - Nextel Cup Series and NHRA Air Force (co-sponsor), National Guard - Nextel Cup Series Navy, Marines, Coast Guard - Busch Series
NASCAR is now all about $$$. It took the death of one of the top drivers (and marketing tools) to get it to enact a saftey program for drivers. It's a shame how it's changed now that corporate sponsors rule it. Cookie cutter tracks with cookie cutter drivers.
The "cars" have very little in common with their "stock" counterparts. Millions of dollars in engineering go into a Nextel Cup car. Except for the nose and tail pieces, the cars are identical to one another.

Aerodynamically, they must be pretty much identical. Every manufacturer has their own engine and chassis programs, but they are so close to the limit of automotive technology that the cars are indeed pretty even. Which makes for much better racing because the cars stay bunched up and do not get strung out early in the race and that's that.
