Is Netflix worth dealing with?
I'm sick of dealing with Blockbuster at the moment, and I'm wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on whether or not Netflix is worth the money.

1. We have not used it, but I have heard it is just great.
I have heard it praised highly on TechTV, and I have seen some good write-ups about it.

It is $20 a month, I think, for unlimited movies and free shipping.

2. SZJ: Netflix is the best.
I am a fundamentally lazy person, so even though Blockbuster was right around the corner I would always end up with an extra $10 in late fee's. I watch alot of movies so I figured I was paying around $100 a month for movies. With Netflix I just step out to my porch and the movie is returned, and it doesn't matter if I've keep it one day or 30.

Also they have a great selection of movies. And now I only spend 28.00 a month on as many videos as I can watch. It's great.

3. An unequivocal YES!
I got started on Netflix when they contacted me (either by postal mail or e-mail... can't recall now) and offered me a free one-month trial membership. It's only $25 a month or so and you can set up a queue of films you want to watch and they'll send them in as close to exact order as availability will allow, as you return them. You can also rate the movies you view and Netflix posts the averages. The data base is awesome, and the sheer number of titles is great. And remember, you don't have ANY due dates for the movies you rent, as long as you continue to keep the funds in your account for the debit or credit charges every month.

The only drawback is that if a movie offers "bonus" discs, you likely won't get them when you rent the movies. But, if you like the movie enough then I imagine you would purchase it anyway.

4. It's awesome
20 bucks a month, all the movies you can fit in. No late charges. It's perfect for catching up on TV series or documentaries. After we finish the World At War, we're doing a Jet Li Hong Kong series of films, then Homicide, then Get a Life.

Could never afford it through Blockbuster.

Been with them for two or three months now, haven't been disappointed yet.

5. Oh, and while we're on the subject of Blockbuster....
I swore I would never give them my business again back in the mid 90's when I rented a few Sega Genesis games and couldn't get them back in time. I turned them in one or two days late, thereby accruing about $3 in late charges. Those sons of bitches not only sent me threatening letters (with regular 24 cent postage stamps no less!!!) over the damn lousy three bucks, they also called me several times, waking me up when I was working a lot of late swing and graveyard shifts.

I paid them their money and never went back.

Who would put up with that kind of crap instead of going through Netflix?

7. it's not all roses....
we gave up on netflix after getting too many filthy discs and discs that skip or stick -- VERY frustrating when engrossed in a movie to have it suddenly stick on one frame....

we also had a problem with discs getting lost in the mail. they will assume its a usps problem once or twice, but after that, you're responsible. well, we can't be paying for bad mail service, so depending on your delivery service, netflix may not be a realistic option.

i'm not a big blockbuster fan, i especially don't like that the stores aren't connected. we have a few blockbusters within reasonable driving distance and the selections vary, so we don't always go to the same one. but you must return your rental to the same store you rented from. which sucks, because that's the last store we want to revisit.

but alas, blockbuster is the best option in this area, so unfortunately, they get my business....

9. I had the same problem
I had to quit Netflix because too many movies were never getting back to them, although I'd mailed them back. They were lost in the mail or the postman was beefing up his movie collection. Also, over a years time, I noticed they were getting slower and slower about scanning them in and shipping the next ones.

8. Yes!
We've been using them for about 3 months now with NO trouble. They are timely and responsive, and you can't beat the convenience. We had one DVD show up split in 2 pieces (never saw THAT before!); threw it back in the envelope with a box checked off that it came that way, and within 2 days, we had a replacement. We've seen SO many good movies this way.
I highly recommend it.

10. Our local video store was bought out
by another chain...since then the movie selection/availability sucks, rental prices went up and they no longer take coupons...

We decided to try netflicks and love it! Don't have to worry about bringing the movies back the next day, we don't have to be in a rush to watch them all at once..just drop them in the mail when we are done

basic membership is $20.00 a month, this gives you 3 movies at a time.. So if you watch 3 movies a weekend over a months time that's 12 movies at a cost of $1.66 per movie, beats our local rental cost of $4-$5 per movie +tax

If we get the movies into the mail by monday or tuesday, we have our next set of movies by Saturday at the latest.

They have great selections, and you can even put movies that are not released yet on your list to reserve them.

We love it!

11. I've been really happy with them!
They seem to be a very good service - I've been using them for a little more than 15 months.

12. Love it!
my son bought me a month's subscription for Mother's Day and I've continued. The best thing is no late fees! Noone calls and bugs you about returning movies. I had 3 discs for about a month because they were Six Feet Under and my husband had not seen them. We watched all 3 one weekend, stuck them in the mail and within 2 days, my next 3 que picks were on the way.

13. I WAS a customer for a while
But found out that the selection of stuff I was interested in wasn't there. I don't think their selection is all that great and found that browsing a category was iffy at times - I'd prefer to see lists of movies available instead of just a few at a time on a page.

The other problem was that I'd order a movie, and then when it arrived a week later, I would have lost interest in the meantime. I prefer to go with an instant selection, either off satellite or from the video store.

I used to have movies sitting around from Netflix for weeks before I'd send it back unwatched because I'd lost interest.

Paying $20 a month to have DVDs sitting around and then sending them back after not watching them seemed like a waste of money.

This is just me, however. Others probably use the service better.

16. I've really liked NetFlix
We use it to keep track of movies we mean to go see in the theater, but never make it to. We'll just put the name of the movie in the moment we see a trailer we like -- and several months later, when it's out of the theater and on DVD, it shows up and we go "Oh, yeah! Hey! I meant to see this!" :)

Got a great deal when we purchased our first DVD player and have been with them ever since. They have changed over the years and their selection has gotten better by leaps and bounds. Service may depend on your area--they have quite a few distribution centers now. Father-in-law lives near West Palm Beach and has a two-day turnaround in his selections; we get new movies about 4 days after we send old ones back.
You ought to be able to get a free trial--I don't have the code right now, but I know they offer freebies.
