Watched "Monster" last night...
What a great film. Finally, a film that attempts to view crime from all angles....

1. Much of it was filmed in Orlando...
I have actually been in the bar where many of the scenes take place.

I was not here in the early 90's when the murders took place, but in talking with a friend about it, he said nothing was done -- until a cop was killed. Par for the course of Southern justice.

2. What i liked was that the director
decided it was a better idea to show the humanity of everyone involved. The film didn't try to paint a scary picture of an "evil" human being, as one might at first expect, but portrayed her as a complex human being reacting to circumstance and to her personal history as an abused child, rejected by her family at an early age that entered the world of prostitution as a child.

On the other hand, it really didn't try to force the audience to sympathize, either. The story told itself and seemed so honest that it was painful to watch. Life is much easier when there are bad guys and good guys. It's much more disturbing when we are forced to accept the fact that the lines that separate us are blurred at best.

4. That was a very good movie
Charlize was amazing.
However, I didn't like Christina Ricci's character at all. She was annoying as hell.

5. I'm gonna disagree--thought it was pretty lame, and as for Charlize
Theron, well, she wasn't bad, but she was far too mannered and predictable. She was ok, but it's not the great performance people have made it out to be. She never got lost in the moment--what I mean is, you always knew she was acting because she never became the character.

I might give her credit for trying to stretch IF I didn't think it was just another shameless attempt (think talentless Nicole Kidman) to alter one's looks so people will think you can act.

6. I had the misfortune of watching "Party Monster" . . .
the story of the NY club kids starring Macauley Culkin a couple of weeks ago . . . REALLY sucked . . . and I mean bad . . .
