7. Compare with Shotokan
How does American Freestyle compare with Japanese Shotokan?

I trained at a JKA dojo years ago. The toughest workout I ever got before or since.

8. Lifelong student of Judo
Since I was roughly 8. Am now 36, 2nd degree for years now, but I don't compete (and hence don't progress) since I'm pretty large physically and don't need the broken bones and strains/spraigns as I get older.

Studied for the better part of one summer at Kodokan in Japan. Those sonsabizatches are tough.

11. Various northern and southern Chinese martial arts ('kung fu')
Also, along the way, some Korean and Okinawan karate-family styles and a spot of American kenpo (very close to certain southern kung fu styles). Oh, and a little bit of krav maga and small tastes of Chinese 'internal' martial arts: tai chi (Chen and Yang schools), hsing-I, and pa kua.
Mainly, for me, the 'external' Shaolin-based styles, though, including traditional weapons, five-animal forms, and (at times) 'modernized, street' fighting.

I love it. I NEED it, too.

I'm glad you found it.

12. Kendo in Elementary School
Not really a big fan of martial arts but I think its fun to watch little kids in Kendo matches, their body armor is bigger than they are.
