Why are my legs so tasty?

My dog is giving my legs a serious tongue-bath. What's up with that?

When I had a dog, she loved my legs as well. Actually, she wasn't picky, she'd lick the legs of anyone who would let her. Damn whore dog.

4. Might be the rendered fat in the soap.

Dogs have a strange attraction to soap. Our previous dog would eat whole bars of soap and vomit them up.

7. It may be pack/bonding behavior........

My Boston Terrier would do the same to my face and neck. Not a happy, fast, "Oh! Its so good to see you" lick, but a slow, deliberate and thorough licking. He would do the same thing to other dogs and even cats in his life that he seemed to cherish.

Just one of the things that makes our pets so valuable, i suppose.


Damn, I miss Mr BB.

He had Diabetes, had gone blind from cataracts and was arthritic, a shell of his former fun, inquisitive and gregarious self.

He was 3 months past his 9th birthday.

He fell asleep forever in my arms a month ago and now rests with his back to the rising California sun.

8. Oh yes, I get the face bath too

The dog likes to play "Hold Still While I Lick Your Face Off." He'll brace me with his paws and give me a bath. Or, he'll just jump on my lap and give me kisses. What a lovey dovey.

9. Pack behavior -- depending on the breed

Could be the salt.

Could it be that the licking happens just after you've taken a shower? Some breeds don't like water and are merely trying to dry you off.

You could be viewed as a pack leader -- and your dog feels you need a licking. <grin>
