3. I love them both, but...
they both basically played themselves, whatever the role. The greatest actor/actress is he or she who BECOMES the role. Meryl Streep comes to mind.

6. Davis displayed more range over course of her career.
Took some guts to do Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.
Kate Hepburn is a joy to watch too. I agree that Meryl Streep is better than either of them - she's done some very powerful work.

Made her stage debute in 1902, danced in sara bernhardt's touring company in 1905, made her first film in 1912, made her last film in 1987, the whales of august, co-staring bette davis. for such a tiny lady she was a real giant of american cinema and stage.

I'd forgotten her. My god, she was in some great roles. "Orphans of the Storm" brings me to tears. So does "Night of the Hunter"--Mother Courage personified!
