Explain the "curse of the Bambino"
My son and I are watching the Yankee - Boston game and are wondering.....Did Babe Ruth actually put a curse on Boston when he was traded or is it just that Boston believes they are cursed because he was traded?.....

1. No! A Boston sports writer made it up in the 1980's
a guy from the Globe, O'Shaunghnessy, I think.

5. The curse of the Bambino has nothing to do with Ruth himself.
The then owner of the Red Sox, one Harry Frazee, sold Ruth and a mortgage on Fenway Park to the Yankees in return for the money he needed to finish a musical show he was working on (No, No Nanette, IIRC). The Sox last won the World Series in 1918 and sold Ruth shortly thereafter. Some have speculated that the Sox drought in championships is due to the stupidity of selling Babe Ruth. Nothing more, nothing less.
