My country is going though a tremendous political crisis right now and good for you, and enjoy, and all that.
I tend to put aside these Weapons of Mass Distraction and focus on what is most important. I don't make a penny of these rich fucks with their huge incomes and media coverage and I can't tell you who has what stats.
I am more obsessed with what Seneator and Representative is for me or screwing my ass totally and taking away not only my future, but the future of my children. It is rather hard to distract and entertain me right now.
The rest of you. Go on and enjoy what matters most to you and please ignore my rant. I am sure our Forefathers enjoyed a good game during the American Revolution, right?
Pay NO atteniont to simple, wannabee Oz-heads who post on poltical forums with unpopular views. We now resume our regularly scheduled programming.

i'm betting they had their share of sport in one way or another, including during their time leading an insurgency against the british empire.

Nice exaggeration. Of course, I am out of place here. This is a sports forum, so my bad.
George bought a team and it was his first big inroad into making a respectable face for himself as anything more than a big business failure. He used sports as a stepping stone to being the Governor of Texas. Enjoy.
George sat around in his ballpark bullshitting the fans, signing autographs, and starting the building of his base. Now, he is your pResident.
People with such deep devotion to sports AND who can keep abreast of politics will shoot the messenger. That's okay, but I would expect you to see that it is hardly the case, generally. Why be so touchy about it? The point is that Weapons of Mass Distraction are a tool and it works well.
I just find it odd that a sports team helped your idiot son of an asshole become what he is today.

5. Listen, I don't think people are going to vote for Bush |

just because they like to watch a ball game. I like sports and I like politics. I can handle both of those interests and keep abreast of the current situation. I think most people can.

I know where you're coming from and I consider you one of the more knowledgeable members of the board. You've got a great mind for facts. You are a very good student of history. I've seen your posts in the other forums and I know you've got your head in the real ball game. But it's nice to sit back and enjoy a ball game, right?

Even though I am commenting in a far more general way, I didn't realize I was stepping into a sports = brains denese clique where my point of view would be taken personally and then defended as any form of attack.
If the point was missed, that is certianly my fault. Sorry.
Go team!

I got your point. You apparently didn't get mine. It's simple. You don't have to breath, drink and eat politics to understand what is going on in the world. Yes sports are a diversion, albeit a minor one. People can have that kind of thing and still comprehend what is going on in the world. Do you like music? What good is music for? It doesn't have anything to do with politics unless the musicians make it so, but it's still fun. You're turning this into something much heavier than it is.

my only complaint with amerikat's thread is that in the poll (first or not)... he/she/it forgot POLAND! and geez, c'mon, isn't that the most important poll?

I'm lucky because my employer lets me do my job in my Birkies. So long as there's no snow I'm in sandals. When I retire I'm going to live somewhere where I only have to wear shoes to church or grocery shop!
Oh, and baseball is boring.:+ At least Boston doesn't have to be home to the Tigers!
