DU Men! Do a self exam regularly
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 02:49 PM by pagerbear
Seriously. A friend lost one of his testes to testicular cancer a couple of years ago. He's very healthy now, thank God. I'm sure others can Google the proper technique faster than I can. I'll just leave it at this.

Edit: removed reference to boys to avoid confusion

3. I'll take care of you, Chavez
But others should check for lumps or irregularities.

8. Good idea!!!
I found a lump there too...turned out to be a cyst...which is usually what they are.

Had Lance Armstrong done this he may not have had to go through the agony he did...it is highly curable!

16. Highly curable yes
but since it usually occurs in men in their 20's, it can grow like wildfire since they still have all their hormones going full steam ahead. Men should begin giving themselves monthly "exams" just like women should examine their breasts monthly. Unlike breast cancer risk being higher as women age, testicular cancer happens more often in young men.

I wish you hadn't refered to the guy's afflicted testicle as "one of his boys". Reading that literally was very confusing. I interpreted it as meaning that he had had one of his male children die from testicular cancer but that the son is healthy now (WTF, he's dead but healthy?).

18. This is excellent advice
I've had several friends who've had testicular cancer, and all of them were in their twenties, an age when you aren't usually worried about such things.

Good post, and thanks for this, pagerbear.
