Well, grandfather. The pics below are of daddy.

My Electric Blue Cichlid, unlike me, got some jiggy and now I've got children to feed.

No wonder he went after the Peacock Cichlids in a frenzy!





Of course, this means my widdle fish is heterosexual... But, that's okay. :D

6. Cichlids are unique in that they raise their young.

Eventually, when the 10,000 fry (assuming they all survive) reach maturity, I will have to move them to other tanks or they will beat each other to death in territorial disputes. It's their own "war on terra". Or, rather, "war in aquaria". :D

Pretty guy, though -- we decided our cats were far, far too curious for us to have an aquarium. Two of ours aren't the least disturbed by knocking things around or sticking their paws into water. Same with the society finches I covet at the pet stores -- they'd be set up for a living hell in this house.

8. Thanks! Here's the info:

The 1st pic was a little off on focus though...

Equipment: Sony Mavica CD500, 5 megapixel digital camera. ISO100, f8, with flash enabled, in macro mode, angled downward so the flash didn't get reflected into the picture. I also have two high intensity fluorescent lights on (and I still needed the flash).

The pics themselves were not modified or altered.

I also took about 15 shots as fish generally don't pose for their observers, and that guy loves defending his turf. :-(

I also took the pics before I noticed he was courting a certain female. At that point, I let the algae grow (I've brown and green algae covering the tank's inner glass) as to not disturb the happy couple, and to give 10,000 juniors some food.
