2. The main "October Crisis" I know about.. |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 12:08 AM by GainesT1958
Is the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Even though I was but four, I remember how worried my parents, and their friends, were that we were about to enter a nuclear conflict with the USSR.
But if there was one in Canada's history you're talking about, HEY, please enlighten us! (Being a history major, I'm always anxious to learn!) :D
B-)

I'm drunk and can't remember the year. FLQ (Front De Liberation de Quebec) terrorists after a bombing campaign in Montreal, kidnappend James Cross and Pierre Laporte. They Executed Laporte and demdnaded many things.
The "War MEasures Act" was passed which basically made Montreal look like Belfast. Tanks and armed soldiers in the streets. Laporte was executed and eventually the whole thing calmed down. Rent "Action" for the whole story.

9. The October Crisis, wherein my man Trudeau... |
|
...layed the smack down upon the FLQ. (And, truth be told, a bunch of other innocent people. But all were released within a few days, which is more than you can say for the innocents rounded up in the current American WoT.) I can't help but like Trudeau; he took no crap from anyone, be it ornery Albertan farmers or self-righeous Quebec separatists.

I shouldn't say, "you fucking rich Albertans damn well should have shared your oil loot with impoverished Newfies, so shut up and stop whining"? You think that would make me unpopular up Alberta way?
(I grew up in Alberta. Talk about a persecution complex. Sheesh!)

16. Are you reffering to the Cuban missle crisis? |
|
If not, I would assume, since you are canadian, that you are reffering to the French Canucks raising hell and trying to start a rebellion. I do not know much about it, but I read about a book by a Canadian General, Romeo Dallaire, and I think he mentioned something about it.
