Do you ever get jealous of ostriches?
I do. Just every now and then. Not a lot. Ostriches: those people who have their heads perpetually stuck in the sand. People for whom elections aren't even a ping on their radar, not even the biggest presidential one in their lifetime. Their reaction a sort of a "what? Hey did you see Smallville last night? Ohmygod it was so good!"

You know? I'll admit it, moments like this, I almost---almost--wish I could go back to being one of them. Ok I haven't TRULY been an ostrich since I was a teenager. But damn. To be blissfully unaware. To rest easy at night for no good reason. To know nothing about government corruption, immoral wars, the budget deficit, backdoor drafts and how badly people without health insurance are fucked.

I don't TRULY want to be one of them. But sometimes, when my shoulders are heavy, I do. Just for a day or two. I want to forget it all.
