Gophers?

They are destroying the yard - and making mounds taller than my little doggies. Stepped in one of their many holes this afternoon while I was mowing, mulching and bagging leaves. Now I have a puffy and throbbing foot.

How on earth do you get rid of these pesky little beasties? I've tried several things but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
