Who else is getting the new Grand Theft Auto game tonight?
I preordered my copy a month ago, and I just got a call saying I could pick it up tonight at seven.

Hell. Fucking. Yeah.

1. ME ME ME
I can't believe I haven't seen more people talking about this. I'm getting my copy at 7 tonight.

Yes, I am excited. And no, I am not fourteen years old.

:)

3. Will probably buy later
Not that I'm not interested, but we've got the election, medical bills, car repairs, and all sorts of stuff going on right now. From the commercials, it looks absolutely gorgeous - I saw a few screen shots a few months ago, too.

It's not just a city - it's a whole friggin' state! That's really exciting.

5. Still playing GTA: Vice City
I suck at gaming, too.

Post later on your initial thoughts, okay?

6. You got it.
It won't be until tomorrow morning, but I'll let you guys know whether the game is life-changingly awesome or just mind-shatteringly awesome.

12. Here's a tip
I don't know how far along you are in the game, but try to fly over the military base. You will be fired upon with extreme prejudice, so don't get complacent. Just keep your eyes open for anything in the base that might be especially useful to you - if you don't see anything yet, try again once you've completed a few more missions.

BTW, the soldiers are fanatics. If they spot you in or even near the base, they will open fire with M-16s like they were guarding the Groom Lake proving grounds from the Russkies. You have been warned. Have a nice day. :silly:

14. I know what he's talking about...
And the "useful" thing doesn't show up until you find 90 out 100 hidden packages.

And it is very, very useful.

16. Not if you do it after the Copland mission
I've never once been fired on in or near the military base (at least on foot). All you need to do is complete the Copland mission and a police uniform will be available at the one precinct you can walk inside. Put the uniform on and the soldiers won't bat an eyelash at you.

19. But as soon as you approach the "useful thing" they go berserk.
But once you're inside the "useful thing", nothing can touch you.

20. I don't remember having that problem.
But yeah it is sort of a moot point once you get "it".

Package hunting is fun. And it also really helps you learn the lay of the land.

21. Alternatively you can take another helicopter
(best option is the Sea Sparrow) and just crashland it right next to the "useful thing" - if you're quick. But yeah, the cop outfit definitely helps. :)

13. Gamestop always releases stuff early
If you have a gamestop near you call them and ask, most likely they have it for sale. I'd go buy it now but I also need to buy a new play station 2 as my brother is an asshat and took it to college and won't give it back.

15. Unfortunately I will have to most likely wait
I've had to lay off buying games for the time being just because I simply can't afford it right now. I've got games I put on preorder that came out months ago that I still haven't picked up because I haven't had the money (Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, I'm looking at you).

I really want it, but honestly it won't kill me to wait. I still haven't beaten Vice City yet. Hell I'm still stuck on Staunton Island in GTA3. Stupid timed missions.

Unless the game has "Final Fantasy" in the title I don't really feel the need to have it the day it comes out anyway. Aside from those, I usually only preorder games if some kind of extra incentive is offered, like the Ura Zelda bonus disc that came with Wind Waker or the artbook that came with Soul Calibur 2.

I also think it's criminal that the industry always stacks their releases during this time of year in a totally ridiculous fashion. I can understand why they do it, they want to stack the deck for the holiday shopping season and pump up the Q4 earnings statements. But as a perpetually broke gamer it does me no favors. I mean it's total horseshit that one or two high profile games come out during the spring, one or two during the summer, and EVERY OTHER ONE in Sept-Dec. :argh:

17. I feel your pain, but GTA:SA is the only high-profile game I'm getting.
Wait, I forgot about Metal Gear Solid 3. And Metroid Prime 2. And Goldeneye.

Crap...

Cool games, cool DVDs, cool concert tickets, Christmas presents, plane ticket to Canada if Bush wins, etc, etc...

23. Heard it's eventually coming to x-box next year so I may wait
Although, it'll be a tough call to wait as the X-box versions of GTA III and GTA:VC didn't offer any "real" improvements/advantages over the PS2 versions in the end.

Plain and simple, what with all the features/elements that have been listed it's going to be hard to avoid the video game store tomorrow.
