Unfortunately its on the PS2.

Seriously, the graphics are complete crap.

I rented it and took it back, I'm waiting for the XBOX or PC version.

4. no shit
same deal with vice city; never EVER play a PS2 game on a computer, then switch back; the lag alone will make you cry, and the graphics...sigh.

play any of the newer GTA games on anything other than a PC.

8. Just screwin around, I get your point
Thing is I'm just not a graphics whore the way a lot of people are nowadays. I guess it's because I grew up on 8-bit consoles, Rogue, MUDs, etc. I mean I'm a product of the days where characters were designed based on hardware limitations (Mario's mustache anyone?). So I just don't understand the PC gamer mentality where people spend hundreds of dollars for a graphics card that is 2% faster than the one they have now. I play games because they're fun not because they're pretty, the pretty is just the icing on the cake to me. This is a big reason why I don't own and don't plan on owning an X-Box...sure the games look nice but they're just not fun to me (I hate sports games but I love RPGs). Between my PS2 and my Cube I'm covered with all the genres I like.

Maybe it's 'cause I'm a Mac user. I use a crappy Win98 PC for stuff like cRPGs and strategy games (Civ, Tropico, The Sims, etc). But I just don't have the money or the patience to constantly upgrade the machine in order to play the latest and greatest thing so I generally stick to consoles. When you're broke and have several expensive hobbies it just doesn't make sense. To each their own though.

11. I prefer PC not really for the graphics....
but for the controls.

Also the fact that in say 5 years time you can play the same game with the graphics maxed out is a bonus.

16. It's about trying to push a machine further than what it can do.
For instance I still think that the SNES is one of the best consoles ever made. I love the graphics style that they used.

However, toward the end of the life of that unit, they tried to get too much out of it and the graphics started looking horrible.

Same thing with the PS2, as they try to squeeze too much out, it just looks like crap.

They need to put that dog down.

10. Well..
Some of us don't have PCs that'll handle the newer games, nor the money to acquire better computers. We do, however, have PS2s we got as Christmas gifts and possibly $50 sitting around.

That said, GTA3 was acceptible on a console. The game wasn't demanding enough to take much away from the graphics experience. Vice City, however, is horrible. They had to tone down the graphics to run the game on the PS2's dated hardware. The result is everything further away than your character's arm's reach is blurry. High-speed driving is almost impossible; you can't see the turns.

I won't be getting San Andreas. It'd be like playing Vice City with beer goggles on.

9. Graphics are not much of an issue for me
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 02:21 AM by Dark_Leftist
in terms of games. If a game has nice gameplay and a good story then I'm happy. The only reason I have a PS 2 is really for only one game: Gran Turismo 4 and that's a good enough reason for me. Eventually, I'll buy a Gamecube because I like the innovation of Nintendo's games.

12. Gamecubes are nice...
I bought one about a year ago.

The $100 price was nice, it sort of made me feel nolstalgic for the older consoles where about $100 was the standard price for them.
