1. I've used AVG for years - free for personal use
From Grisoft

I also use ZoneAlarm firewall software - free for personal use.

I've used computers for over 20 years; in case you need some sort of resume.

:hi:

2. An article comparing the top two
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1646781,00.asp

I'm sorry I don't know of any good free ones.

I like Norton - Hubby likes Mcafee (which is what we run  )
If you buy a boxed version, they all seem to be offering quite healthy rebates at the moment, if you can produce a legal copy of any old version of an antivirus software.
One thing I don't like about Mcafee, if you forget or are late paying for your virus definition licence , they make you buy a whole new version, for a lot more money. Which I feel is a right scam.
Anyway, I hope the article helps.

5. Nod32
I have worked with AV software for Window going on 9 years now. Nod is the best I have seen. It has a low memory profile and it catches more stuff than any product I have found yet.
