Chicago-area DUers: Who's interested in Nov. 7 get together?
We can celebrate our victories and plan for the future. Any takers?

As far as location, I'm partial to the Irish pub. The fireplace will likely be lit, and I always enjoy the music if we linger long enough.

But that's my late grandmother Angela Engleberta Garrett (3rdGenDem)'s birthday (she'd be 109). Hoist one for her.
John
Especially since I just cosmically embarrassed her by telling y'all her middle name. I'd have been slapped just now if she was around to do it.

4. I'd like to.
I tried a couple of meetups, at one there was actually someone else there. Why is it so hard to get just a few DU people together in such a huge city as Chicago?

5. Not sure what you're talking about
We get together every month or two. We watched the VP debates at a bar near the U of C and about 25 attended the summer blowout before Labor Day.

8. Sorry if I seem cryptic.
Not meaning to. I had been trying to attend a meetup through the Meetup.com membership thing for DU, but it never worked out, save for the one time when it was just me and one other person. How have you been arranging them? Obviously not with that method. I'd just like to hang with like-minded folks, really, and I thought that meetup thing was what people were using to organize meetings.

No i didn't play the pointy guitar. I played bass with my drummer and guitar player. Then, we brought up our pal Rob (a monsterously good bassplayer) and i sang one tune and played guitar on 4 others. But, i had to play our friend Tim's Les Paul. Blech! Neck's too flat, action was a little too low for my taste, and the string tensions too low. Besides, NO WHAMMY BAR!!!! Two of the tunes we did made me grab for the non-existent bar about 10 times. Man, i wish i'd have brought my own pointy one. But, no. Just brought my bass.

Thank you Rob (XNASA) for making the drive. It was fun to have you there!

Couldn't with a Les Paul. Useless piece of junk. OK, so a $3000 piece of junk.

I had the tune to do it on too, but it took me too long to get used to the shorter scale and wider neck. By the time i did, we were doing the next song. Damn it! My kingdom for a wah and whammy bar.

16. Sounds like an idea
As always though, I can't make a firm commitment due to my, umm, err, domestic circumstances.

One thing though, Da Bearssss play at 3 that day so a place with ample tee-vee viewing is preferred. Anyone ever been to McGee's in Lincoln Park hard by DePaul? http://www.mcgeestavern.com/mcgees1/contact.shtml
Our fantsay football league meets there every so often on a Sunday to watch all the games and give each other some shit. If I could coordinate, we may be able to make some converts too (albeit too late for this election.)

Anyway, keep me informed.

Don't know the TV situation at Celtic Crossing, but I don't think we have that many in our crowd that would mind missing it. In fact, I would prefer staying out of a sports bar.

Celtic Crossings
751 N. Clark St.
Chicago, IL
Clark and Chicago

At some "Irish" bars, the most they have in common with Ireland is Guinness on tap and cardboard shamrocks taped to windows. Not so here. Co-partners John Phelan, John O'Reardon and Kevin Hibbitts hail from Ireland; customers, some ruddy and red-haired, talk about their last visit to "the island." With a working stone fireplace made by George Nugent of County Clare, it aims to be like a Dublin pub--and assuredly is, since designer Hibbitts is from nearby Laois. You'll find 13 beers on tap--mostly imports like Murphy's, Newcastle, Guinness and Harp--have no food or TV to "intrude on people's conversation," says Phelan, who's from Waterford. A good crowd comes to listen and sometimes dance to Irish bands on Saturday, but mainly people just socialize. "Most of the bars back home are just drinkin' bars," Hibbitts says. "You have a chat and you're out the door."

CTA bus (11-Lincoln, 22-Clark, 66-Chicago) , Red Line train (Chicago stop) , Cabs plentiful
Street parking possible , Pay lot

So, what time to start? 2 p.m.? 3 p.m.?

And people can stay until whenever. They don't serve food but don't mind it you bring any if from neighboring restaurants. About 6 or 7 p.m., they usually have a relaxed music session with some incredibly talented people stopping in to share their skills.

Looks like we have a good start and all are welcome! :bounce:
