What's your favorite kind of sushi?

I've made a habit of eating Japanese every Sunday evening... I'll probably head out to Sushi Yama in a few hours. I was thinking about it and I'm curious.... what's your favorite kind of sushi/Japanese food?

I'm really fond of tuna, but someone made me try uni the other week and it was pretty good - just expensive! =)

(I'll take some suggestions too, since I'm not sure what I'm going to order tonight!)

1. fresh water eel

2. Ikura!

The salmon eggs.

Many people think I'm insane, but that's okay with me! I just love the stuff - and I have since I was about 4 years old. My mom used to put ikura on top of my fritattas when I was a kid. Yes, I was an odd little Swedish kid.

Also, I love the tekka maki and kappa maki (tuna and cucumber rolls). Basically, I don't like sea urchin, but I'm a sushi fanatic otherwise! :-) MMMM!

I'd have to say that California rolls remain high on my list. They were my first and my most enduring (and even pretty quick and easy to make at home), though I expanded my menu to include a bit of just about everything. I do like salmon rolls a lot (spicy or not) and like at least some versions of sushi constructed around eel, soft-shell crab, shrimp, or tuna. Yum.

5. Eel, salmon and salmon roe, and tuna

are my faves. Eel Dragon Roll is good. Abalone is good too! Salty and chewy. :D

I'm not fond of yellowtail, too fishy.

Though, since I've been on Atkins, I've ordered more Sashimi. I'm convinced fish were made to eat fresh and raw!

6. Tuna and eel by a landslide

By the way, if you ever go to Japan, go to the fish department of a high class department store (they all have groceries in the basement) and ask for their tuna sashimi plate.

That is raw fish heaven. There really is a difference between the good stuff and the mediocre stuff.

7. Tuna belly

I'm not sure what the Japanese name for it is. I also like the salmon roe.

8. Cheap food list: Hakata Ramen made from pigs head. Oishi.

and Okonomiyaki, and all of the mochi pasteries.

Todo, raw blue fin tuna, for the sashimi thingy with wasabi, forget the rice part unless it koshi hikari from mountain side Niigata.

and those fish cake things, komoboko, man its all good. especially the ones with gobo in them, yikes, highly addictive.

My daughter loves sushi, at the age of 11. I even managed to get her to try salmon roe, and now she loves it!

Come, we eat toro until we collapse.

9. Salmon

Salmon is so high in fat, it can't help but taste good. Salmon roe rocks, as well.

I've also gotten into conch lately. Quite tasty.
