Vancouver DUers - did you and your family surive halloween? |
|
Halloween in Vancouver is fucking crazy. It's the only time of the year fireworks are legally purchased so people go nuts. It's neat all you hear is sirens, so many fireworks going off you'd think there was a war on and the sky is lit up. The news the next day is always amusing.

1. It's still going on... |
|
...I can see them over Richmond at the moment, although around here the artillery barrage seems to have diminshed for the moment.
-SM, who hopes that errant pyrotechnics don't set fire to his, or anyone else's apartment buildings.

Interesting. Fireworks are only used here for May 24 and July 1.

4. My notion is that it's primarily a Chinese tradition... |
|
...but I'm not totally sure about that. If it is, it has no doubt been gleefully embraced by all the other ethnic groups in the Lower Mainland.

7. If I was young and mischevious... |
|
...instead of being old(ish) and cranky, I'd probably think it was fun too.

8. It's finally quieting down here in my hood |

It's been booms and sirens all night. I didn't know that this was not a common practice.
My brother lives in one of those joiner neighbourhoods in the burbs that has all sorts of street events. Each household (was compelled to) put in $25 for the fireworks display. I'm sure my adorable little niece enjoyed it. Next trial for my brother. Competition by Christmas lights.
