Lawrence Olivier asked Dustin Hoffman as he drilled his teath, in Marathon Man. One of the great classic spy thrillers!
I always loved that general genre of film. My favorites are the old Michael Caine movies (one of his later ones was The Fourth Protocol, costarring Pierce Brosnan). Other classic flicks (not necessarily thrillers per se) include The Manchurian Candidate, starring Frank Sinatra, and even The Eiger Sanction, starring Clint Eastwood (please, NOT Firefox! I just never thought of it as superior...).
Any others I don't know about, that I should keep an eye open for while at the video store tonite? Gotta entertain my brain, and I want to do it spy-style! James Bond flicks need not apply. I prefer a bit of depth, and I want originals, NOT remakes.....

I have tried my best to find "The List of Adrian Messenger"; it is a British thriller with George C. Scott and Kirk Douglas. If you find it, please post. I did order "The Spiral Staircase" with Dorothy McGuire and Joseph Cotton. All I remember is that it scared me to death.

"The Anderson Tapes" with Sean Connery, Dyane Cannon, Christopher Walken and Garret Morris (Yep, The SNL GM). Don't remember a whole lot about the movie. But the ending is pretty rad.

is very good but since you mentioned Michael Caine suppose you have caught it, so this is a just in case.
Have you seen any of the BBC "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries"
So far they seem very good.

6. I last saw Ipcress a couple years back |

You're right, it was very good. Mystery has so badly overdosed on police inspectors it's hard to keep up with them. My favorites were Inspector Morse, and of course the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. I believe he was the definitive Holmes! A pity the leads in both have passed.
Oh, yeah, don't forget Mystery's "Rumpole"! Leo McKern had the most incredible voice! (He was also a Number 2 twice in The Prisoner...)

Gives Great GodDamn (the best imo) commentary. Best around. The Train, Seven Days in May, The Manchurian Candidate, Seconds etc..
He gives(gave) such a good insight to his work.
R.I.P.
I wish he had lived to see off a Grand PrixDVD.

9. Has anyone seen the British production of "Perfect Spy?" |

The book blew my socks off and I've always wanted to see the series that was made from it. I hear it was very good.
