2. That would be tremendous. And I can think of a few others to join him...
Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins are two names that come to mind.

6. At this point, its just a rumor.
ABC and a couple of networks have mentioned that Lincoln Chafee, and a couple of other northeast senators may switch, but it is only a rumor at this time. They will probably wait and see what transpires over the next few months before doing anything. Kind of like Jim Jeffords.

7. Its just a rumor
but I hope its true. Any defection of "Moderate" Republicans would make me feel a little better about the future of this country.

If such people do exist in the upper reaches of the Republican Party perhaps a better description for them would be "Patriotic Republicans" because they would put whats best for country ahead of party politics and personal power.

Sen. Chafee considers leaving GOP
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/ussenate/2004-11-03-ri-chaffee_x.htm

PROVIDENCE (AP) — Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he would consider switching parties if President Bush is re-elected.

"I'm not ruling it out," Chafee told The Providence Journal.

Chafee, known for moderate views that often run counter to the Bush administration, also said he cast a write-in vote for Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, in Tuesday's election. He said it was a "symbolic protest."

Chafee told the newspaper that he didn't plan to change parties "at this minute."

"I'll have to look and see what happens tonight (Tuesday), the makeup of everything," he said.
