There was a big book of Freak Brothers |
|
Fat Freddy ends up taking in a particularly nasty mix of drugs and ends up with a case of psychotic munchies. Franklin runs ahead and gussies himself up real quick and explains to some store owner that the store is about to get hit with a candid camera tv crew, and to not worry etc etc.
Freddy comes in with a machete and eats/tears his way through the entire store, passes out, Phineas and Franklin load more grub onto Freddys stomach and pick him up by his hands and legs and haul him away.
"Hey, Mr. Mac, you done filming?" was the store owner calling after them.
Good shit.

22. No, that's S. Clay Wilson. |
|
He created Captain Pissgums & his Pervert Pirates. As well as the Checkered Demon.
His stuff was a bit rougher than Gilbert Shelton's.

with their girlfriends and a huge bag of coke....they started snorting and fixing up the cabin until they turned it into a mansion, and they all started looking like movie stars. Then they ran out of coke.

In high school me and my friends thought we were so cool going to this little head shop in my small town and we would buy that magazine. There were always rumors that the guy who owned the place worshipped the devil in the back room and you could see a big pentagram on the floor. His name was Elvie and the shop was located in a MORE rundown part of town everyone called "Boomtown". We thought we were so cool, it was like going to a haunted hosue or something because we were afraid we'd be snatched and used as a sacrifice or something! LOL My friends used to get high all the time and we bought this one chicken claw pipe that everybody thought was so neat. This was back in the mid-late 70s and early 80s, mind you. We were following in the footsteps of our older hippie predecessors well known in school. Thanks for bringing up the funny memories!

I bought my first Freak Brothers comic in Berkeley, Ca. in 1969 and I've still got it. The Navy sent me to NAS Alameda after school which was the absolute worst place you could send a freak. Purple Owlsley, Fillmore West, etc.. Man if I could re-live those days.

I was in the Army. Somebody sent it to a friend. We wore it out reading it. It was either that or C-RAT labels.

23. Wonder Warthog preceded the Freak Brothers. |
|
Also a creation of Gilbert Shelton, he appeared in my brother's Hot Rod magazines. (He may have begun in a UT publication.)
The Hog of Steel's secret identity was the meek Philbert K. Desanex.

I've built a collection from the unofficial #1 up through. I just had them out the other day, "Don't flush the stash fellows it's only zap me, zap me, zap me". Meanwhile Phineas and Franklin are jumping with joy " IT WORKS ". The trap they set for narcs.
The trouble is they're all reprints, my first editions walked away.
