I have the coolest doctor ever. |
|
Just had a physical. (Blood pressure's down, waiting for results of an anemia test but otherwise fine. Anyhow.)
My doc is a mid-40s woman, always been very conversational (pretty direct, actually, but not in an off-putting way). She's also a raging liberal.
When we were discussing recent events in my personal life:
Doc: So, how's your husband? Me: Soon-to-be ex. Doc: Ah. You kicked him out, huh. Hope it's going OK. Me: Yeah. Amicable. One of those heading-in-different-directions things. Doc: He didn't up and become a Republican, did he?
And later:
Doc: Even though I know you know all this, it is my duty as your physician to remind you about safer sex. Me: I already got that lecture from my dad. (true, BTW.) Doc: Eew. He didn't tell you fornification is a sin, did he? Me: Nah. He's cool. It's just awkward. Doc: My last patient was a fundamentalist Christian and she was up in the stirrups, going on about the sinful nature of fornification. Pronounced it just like that, too. It was all I could do to keep from laughing...my hand in this woman's vagina, she talking about fornification.
:D

6. She probably shouldn't have mentioned previous patients... |
|
(but as it was earlier in the day, our paths wouldn't have crossed, so privacy laws weren't broken). It cracked the hell out of me, though... I'm cool with bluntness.

7. Confidentiality wasn't compromised if she didn't identify the patient. |
|
But where she told you is irrelevant.

4. My doctor just left private practice, but she was just like that... |
|
Mid-40's, liberal, Episcopalian, witty, warm-everything you dream of. Gave me at least one solid hug each visit and often two. She's divorced, and at our last and final visit I said "If I weren't gay, I'd chase you all over this town"...Her reply "You wouldn't have to chase very hard!"
She's going out of private practice and on-staff at a local hospital. I miss her.

5. Most Docs Had Been Sucked in with the "tort-reform" nonsense |
|
Bush really rounded 'em up and sucked 'em in the the 'tort reform' issue.
He told them he would take away their biggest headache - the nightmare of their profession AND since they are in his gilded tax bracket, he had them there too.
Having someone tell you they will take away your profession's biggest sore spot is very enticing. Everything the neo-cons do is strategic and integrated.
