I've lost my husband to "Halo 2"
He's pretty much dead to me now. He gets home, leaves a trail for clothes, hits the cereal, beef jerky and xbox, and that's before Halo 2 came out. He had me standing in line for 2 hours in 23 degrees to get it last night at midnight. I may get to talk to him Sunday though...that will be nice.

What is the appeal of video games! I just don't get it? But then I have much too short an attention span to enjoy them properly.

2. When the next Zelda game comes out,
you can commiserate with my partner. I've made it clear that my 'Zelda Time' is one of the few things I will not negotiate over.. :P

3. there could be worse addictions
My whole family has at one time or another been cripplingly addicted to the "Heroes of Might and Magic" PC game series. Each of us takes spells where we just can't resist it...must play the game now must play the game now...must kill the dragon ...must get the

oh well never mind.

I am currently off games and on post election overdrive weblogging. At some point it will be something else. Maybe Canasta live with others on Yahoo. Who knows?

4. It must be astrological
I hear the same whining from my spouse, "You're pouring your life
away in to that stupid game." Meanwhile, i'm engrossed "<ESC key>"
"Did you say something?" Pissed off glum look. "<ESC key>" :-)

Once i load up a video game that works for me, i set it on the
hardest level and must achieve the highest score, with all the secret
bits, or its just not worth doing. As you might well know, this
can take months.

I did some work at the video games testing lab of the second largest
video games maker behind electronic arts (PC games). There was,
in Bucharest, Romania, a lab of over 100 people with masters degrees
paid full time to "test" the latest release games on top end hardware. I was sooo bummed that those jobs have gone offshore.

Welcome to the video game widows club. :toast:

5. Yup! That's exactly like my husband.
That's why he had me standing out in the cold. He was afraid that if he waited until today, he would lose 6 hours and be at a disadvantage when playing online! I guess I just don't get it, he gets so upset about losing...it's just a game, isn't it?

6. its not just a game
I've got the "command and conquor" bug. I used to really like chess
when younger, and i see C&C as a much much more sophistocated game
than chess, with dynamic outcomes and complex terrains (boards) that
no physical game could ever come up with.

My favorite ones are where i lose badly, and then have to replay
over and over until i can defeat the opponent... sorta like losing
to a chess computer.

Just the game involves intense timing, unlike chess, things are
moving, and all pieces on the board move constantly at a speed, so
the commander must not get distracted by outside conversations or
it screws up the whole battle.

Frankly, i get the same flak for typing on DU, except DU is
noisier, as i have a tendency to laugh, and am typing away, whereas
the video game is just the mouse and headphones if the spouse is
about, or speakers if not.

The worst is when i put a game on pause, and do an errand or
someting to return and discover that my game has been shut down
because it was wasting electricity!!! Late at night, i hear the
call from the bedroom... why don't you come to bed and *"£*"$)%...
and instead, the video game is a mesmerizing calm, a sort of peace
to not be interacting with any persons who have opinions about me..
just a peice of software that challenges my wits... in this regard,
i find it strangely peaceful, like my grandma used to be with
her jigsaw puzzles.

7. we lost all reason to the first halo
Hubby and I both played it coop mode, and at one point were playing for nearly 24 hours straight. Heavens. I can't believe we are both such geeks. Anyway, he's offshore till Thursday and my parents are coming to stay for 3 weeks, so I have no idea what we'll do. I guess we'll get it, and then lock it away somewhere until we can find a spare week to blow off completely!

15. It's a balancing act
Games like HALO 2 and GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS immerse you in a world that is becoming increasingly refined and detailed, where you can go anywhere, do anything, and make yourself part of the game instead of a detatched spectator with a joystick.

That said, I don't let the PS2 come between me and time with my wife. I usually fire it up only when she's asleep.

16. That's really sweet of you...I wish my SO would take lessons
But I can't say anything because the one time I did, it ended messy. All I did was ask why he was so competitive and he said in a most serious voice "Because it's all Im good at". And he thinks that because of his idiot parents (I've met them, they're horrible). All they do is call him fat and stupid. Ugh.

12. People that are so into Halo amuse me. It's really not that good of a
game.

There are MANY PC First Person Shooter games that kick its ass up and down the street.

Halo, in fact, was the most repetitive and tedious game I've ever played. I began to wish it would end, once and for all. But no, there were "twists" to be had :eyes:

14. He didn't like the first Halo, I think he's only into this one for the
online gaming. He gets a kick out of forming teams and leading flag captures and whatever the hell else they do.

18. Part of the superiority of FPS games on PCs vs consoles...
.. Is the keyboard/mouse combo for control- Consoles can't touch that with the controllers most use. Additionally, the current generation of consoles are technically inferior to a good PC, and new consoles are generally obsolete by PC standards in about 6-8 months.

That said, PC gaming could use some of the gameplay/gameflow oriented innovations seen in better console games. It's often easier to enjoy console games quickly, and you put up with less elements of frustration dealing with software. A dedicated gamer will have both.

Lastly, Halo specifically was something of a yawn itself. I'd agree wholeheartedly. Haven't seen the new title, so I'll reserve judgment on that.

PS - I miss your Stewie avatar, tho the upside down flag seems quite appropriate.

But if it weren't for that stupid game, I would have snapped last week!
