Druggists refuse to give out pill
For a year, Julee Lacey stopped in a CVS pharmacy near her home in a Fort Worth suburb to get refills of her birth-control pills. Then one day last March, the pharmacist refused to fill Lacey's prescription because she did not believe in birth control.

"I was shocked," says Lacey, 33, who was not able to get her prescription until the next day and missed taking one of her pills. "Their job is not to regulate what people take or do. It's just to fill the prescription that was ordered by my physician."

Some pharmacists, however, disagree and refuse on moral grounds to fill prescriptions for contraceptives. And states from Rhode Island to Washington have proposed laws that would protect such decisions.

Mississippi enacted a sweeping statute that went into effect in July that allows health care providers, including pharmacists, to not participate in procedures that go against their conscience. South Dakota and Arkansas already had laws that protect a pharmacist's right to refuse to dispense medicines. Ten other states considered similar bills this year.

The American Pharmacists Association, with 50,000 members, has a policy that says druggists can refuse to fill prescriptions if they object on moral grounds, but they must make arrangements so a patient can still get the pills. Yet some pharmacists have refused to hand the prescription to another druggist to fill.

2. There are companies who refuse to offer BC Pills
I worked for Adelphia and they refused BC pills as well. I had to get a special note from my doctor. I wonder how many other companies do the same thing.

4. But not against their so-called "morals"
to dispense mind altering drugs that can potentially cause suicides and other side-effects. Let's face it, if we can't even go to a pharmacy and get our prescriptions filled that our physicians tell us we need to complete our lives, we are doomed. Totally.

The more I hear about these fundies and how they get away with this, the more scared I become for my future, the future of my children and the future of our country. It's frightening to think that the "morals" of a small bunch of bottom feeders will dictate the lives of every American.

5. What's next?
Yet another sad attempt for these people to tell us what's "right" for us, by allowing this sort of thing to happen. I'm sure they're still having a fit that Prop 71 passed in CA. :eyes: Why not let the doctors do their jobs???

7. is this a store policy?
Adopted by the whole chain? Just this one store? Is CVS running a franchise system?

Or is it one employee abusing the APA's line and her Boss' confidence in her?

Just wondering, because frankly I don't see pharmacists having the right (nor the competence) to add anything to or remove anything from a prescription. Least of all because of "beliefs".

9. FUCK THEM!
Why not refuse to sell condoms because SEX IS BAD! Why not refuse to sell candy because IT MAKES YOU FAT! FUCK THOSE ASSHOLES. I'm so sick of people putting regulations on my rights not only as a woman but as a person as well. Fuck that.

10. They are biting the hand...
Prescriptions are cheaper and easier to get on-line. Republicans can try to intimidate a client, but the client can change stores, not only for birth control, but all other meds.
