In this thread, say something nice about Phil Collins. |
|
Though by far the majority of his music is unlistenable to me, his use of tribal-influenced rhythms and tension-release dynamics in the songs "I Don't Care Anymore" and "In the Air Tonight" are quite effective.
OK, now you guys.

Then he overstepped his bounds and tried to become a front man for the group.

a guy is pounding on someone's door, holding a shotgun, yelling
"S-s-sussudio all fucking day! S-s-sussudio all fucking night! You want some S-s-sussudio you asshole? I'll give you some fucking S-s-sussudio!"
I still crack up about that.

29. My Dad met him once, in a hotel lobby bar in Syracuse. |
|
My Dad didn't know who he was. They had a nice chat over drinks. He said he was a really nice guy and had a good sense of humor. When my Mom came down from her room, he was gone. My Dad told her who he had met, and my Mom was PISSED because he didn't get an autograph for her.

30. I liked his work with Genesis better than solo stuff |
|
His early solo albums were pretty good, lately have gotten a tad too tame for me. His earlier stuff just had great vitality. He still is one of my favorite artists, though, I do like Peter Gabriel a bit better.
I have seen both live, Peter Gabriel's show was probably the best show I have ever seen, just an absolute visual dream. Phil is a little more down to earth maybe, and he has to be one of the best rock drummers of all time. He is all around a sort of affable fellow.

A bunch of session musicians got a nice little jazz-rock band together, including Phil on drums. They were excellent.
That said, it has been a major philosophical problem to me, why Genesis with Gabriel was so good, and without Gabriel, so lame.
