What I like about open-source software is that 'version 1.0' usually means, it's done, the bugs are fixed, you can trust your life to this software.
Whereas, with commercial software, version 1.0 usually means 'use this at your own risk'.

Before then it was considered beta and not ready for prime time.
When it comes to using commercial software, especially M$ software, anything before version 3.0 is like playing Russian roulette.
