Something freepers fail to remember about God and Jesus. |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 06:21 PM by Jack Schitt
They should go re-read the Bible. In the Bible, the main theme that is always repeated is that God loves everybody--black, white, gay, or straight--skin color or sexual orientation doesn't matter to Him. He loves all of us.
Now, when these people are hating on others because of their skin color/sexual orientation/political beliefs, they should remember that God loves all. Would God like it if these idiots hated people because of who they are? I think not. Would you catch God, sitting on a cloud up in Heaven, saying "Gee. I really hate gays"? The answer is absolutely not.
How about Jesus? Jesus always says He loves all of his children. He doesn't hate anyone. He never sat around with the 12 Disciples talking about how evil the gays/different ethnicities/different races were. He never talked about hating those people. Instead, He talked about how much He loves them.
Sorry. Just felt like pointing out the freepers' hypocrisy and their "forgetful" knowledge of the Bible.
What's weird is that I'm agnostic and I actually believe this.
Maybe I should go to quarter taps tonight...

Jesus loved the sinners and denounced the religious phonies of his time. Hypocrites, he called them.

"the main theme that is always repeated is that God loves everybody"
Really?
How about Deuteronomy 20:16-17,
"However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them-the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites-as the LORD your God has commanded you."
If God loved the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, would he order the Israelites to completely destory them?
If Freepers are violent and hateful, it probably has something to do with their admiration of the God described in the Bible.

The Bible has so many contradictions it makes me wonder whether or not it's real.
Another contradiction that really bothers me is that, if God was all-loving, all-forgiving, then why are people condemned to Hell? If he were those adjectives I used to describe him, then no one would ever have to suffer in Hell, right?

3. Yeah, but they always answer with... |
|
...We're not Jesus or God. Freepers aren't Christian. They only play one on the campaign trail, and in the voting booth. And IF they pray to a god, it ain't the one from the good Book! They are summed up in the Bible: Matt. 7:15-20: "Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to you in sheep's covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will recognize them...Every good tree produces the fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit...Really, then, by their fruits you will recognize those men." Need we say more?

9. You know what's really sad? |

All of the agnostic and atheistic people I know make better Christians than some Christians themselves.
That's a good article. I read it and bookmarked it.

10. What version of the Bible have you been reading? |
|
In my version, God comes across like a cosmic dickhead. He murders babies, condones rape, slavery, and the worst sort of chauvinism. He's racist, petty, and indulges himself in torturing his followers in order to test them (Job, Abraham, etc. ad nauseum). If you piss him off enough, he'll destroy the world. This God fellow doesn't sound like anyone you'd want to meet in a dark alley!
Don't even get me started on Jesus. Not a nice fellow at all, he also endorses slavery and vengence. He even commands his followers to hate their parents. No, not someone I can see having a beer with at all.
No wonder the fundies are always in a shitty mood. You have to take the Bible with a big ol' grain of salt to really get some wisdom out of it.

11. I think it's important |
|
thgat a distinction be brought up here. All of the carnage and maiming associated with God comes from the Old Testament. There is nothing I can recall in the Gospel (words of Christ directly) that talks about that kind of thing. Jesus almost always focused on the positive aspects of love.

14. Respectfully, I disagree |
|
Among other not so loving deeds, Christ condemned entire cities to eternal torment because they didn't like his preaching (Matt 11:23-24, Mark 6:11, Luke 10:10-15)And those are just the verses I have handy.
My brother's a fundy, so we've been round and round about this for years. Personally, I don't think the message of the Bible stands up to much scrutiny, but many folks seem to get a lot out of it. As I said earlier, I think the wisest folks take the Bible with a big grain of salt.

13. I dunno. God smote a lot of folks. |
|
In the Old Testament, anyway. He smote the shit out of the Philistines and a whole buncha others. He was a jealous God and a vengeful God. He toned it down a lot in the New Testament.
