Unofficial Joan of Arcadia thread
I don't know if it's the current condition of my life, a weakness for emotional drama, or a desire to have some emotional connection to the rest of the world, but I can't seem to get through an episode with a dry eye. Tonight's episode was harder than most due to the tragic turn of events. I know too well how one poor choice can have tragic results. I also am familiar with the slow and deliberate suicide that many embrace only to realize at the end the suffering that is endured by those left behind. (no endorsement of Mr LeHay's books) This show is one of the few guilty pleasures that I allow myself with broadcast media. Since there had been a few discussions in the last few weeks about this program, I was curious as to the reasons you enjoy it and for what reasons.

2. it's a very well-written show
When it first started, I thought it was going to be like Touched By An Angel, which I hated. But Barbara Hall must be a genius. The characters seem so real. And it doesn't hurt that Amber Tamblyn is so cute (and a Democrat, by the way).

4. She's definitely a draw
not to mention Mary Steenburgen.(more my age) The story lines reflect a reality I'm familiar with and I get drawn into an empathetic relationship with the characters. In tonights episode, I felt the pain when Lt Preston(Annie Potts) was trying to tell Will Girardi about the situation. Her reaction as he went to see if it was really his daughter layed the groundwork to tell a story that may build a relationship that really complicates the lives of the Girardi family. I think her past is driving her to have a more personal relationship with Will to try and ease the pain of past events. The last few episodes have been building the framework for that story line. The next few months should prove to be interesting.

6. You need TIVO
or a well programmed VCR. My previous favorite was 7th Heaven. I guess that pretty much corners me as being an over-emotional liberal, but I subscribe to the Popeye philosophy... I am what I am and that's all that I am.

5. I too really like the show
It reminds me why I am a xtian. I really like the way there is not always a happy ending, and that God's purpose is not easily discerned and not always what we want it to be.

7. Some lessons are best learned through the pain
Job was a great follower of Christ but endured the greatest challenges to his faith. I take comfort in the thought that Job endured more in his lifetime than we might see in the next four years. I hope that I might endure the challenges as well as he did. My record so far has not been as admirable.
