Amputee Model To Pose For Playboy
<snip>

One small step for Playboy, one giant leap for mankind.
Tomorrow during a photo shoot in Chicago, Jennifer Krum - a 25-year-old amputee model who lost her left hand and forearm in a car accident when she was 4 - will take it all off for a Playboy.com pictorial.

"If I was an able-bodied, all-of-my-limbs girl, I don't know if I'd do it," Krum confessed to Lowdown yesterday. "I'm doing it mainly because I want to send the message to people who are amputees, or have issues with confidence or don't find themselves attractive or sexy - that you can be attractive or sexy, even if you're an amputee."

Krum, who lives in Pennsylvania, was discovered by Hugh Hefner's venerable mag after she won Howard Stern's "Miss Amputee 2004" contest last week.

1. I'm at a loss as to how one should react to this "news"
Guess even those women who suffer a loss of a limb should have the "honor?!?" of being objectified. Whoa! Very strange even for my tastes.

5. I wonder if she realizes that she'll be starring...
...in more than one weird fetishist's bizarre fantasy.

11. There was an amputee fetishist on Stern's show with her
He was very weird. I listen to Stern's show fairly often and have heard this friend of the show dozens of times. He calls in almost every day. His name is Chauncey and he runs Stepping Out magazine. A little ad filled free mag in the NJ/NY area. I never liked his humor, but his weird fetish about amputees shook me up.

I guess there is something that excites everyone. One of the amputee guests said she knows several straight men and lesbians who hit on her due to her amputation. I saw the women on Stern's web page, and they were very attractive. I think I would be attracted to them anyway, but the amputee thing doesn't do anything for me.

As for the "winner" of Stern's contest appearing in Playboy, I'm all for it. I don't see anything wrong with posing nude in Playboy.

2. on a philosophical note
would a transgender male-to-female qualify as an amputee? Just being curious and tasteless as usual . . .

10. Back in my youth
when Penthouse first came out, every second letter seemed to include either amputees or enemas. No new ground here.

12. I think this is a great thing!
It just goes to show that even women with disfigurations can be considered just as beautiful and worthy of Playboy as those that are perfect (even if it is airbrushed perfection)
