Is anyone else here using Firefox?
I am and find it much faster than MS Internet Explorer.

Any bad opinions?

7. If left open for a couple of days
it develops a wicked memory hogging problem. I'd close it after every use, much like milk must be put back in the fridge.

Other than that its great! I recommend getting the focus-last-selected-tab extention though (FLST). Makes firefox about 23% easier to use!

Here's a tip to speed it up even more.

Download the Chromedit extension found https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=17&vid=1028 then close and re-open Firefox. Then go to "Edit User Files," (under tools) there will be a tab for user.js, copy bellow and paste it in to that file and click save at the bottom. Close and re-open Firefox.

24. Careful with that ... Pipelining Warning

Pipelining can be a good or a bad thing. Dial-up users will get the most benefit, and broadband users may seem some speed increase. However, some servers are not equipped to deal with it, some network connections can't handle it, and some computers simply can't go that fast. Also, if you have Windoze and SP 2 in stalled, this can also create problems as one of the "upgrades" to security can interpret multiple server requests as the mark of a worm and cause your network link to stall. The result of all this is actually a slow-down, which is very noticeable on pages with graphics that aren't cached.

I experienced a problem I eventually traced to pipelining interacting badly with my ISP.

I'd personally recommend installing the extension Tweak Network Settings. You can then place with the various connection and pipelining variables and see what works best on your system.

10. I was using it for a few months and just went back to MS
MS has pop-up adds, but is faster for me. I also had difficulty getting into my Yahoo mail with Firefox. I hadn't realized that
Firefox was the problem until I switched back to Internet Explorer.

25. That's fixable ...

You can also use a little program called YahooPOPs that allows you to use a local mail client to download, read, and respond to messages without accessing Yahoo's homepage.

Just an FYI ...

I'm not noticing a speed difference at all. Perhaps because I was using Safari (Mac OSX) before? I haven't found anything to complain about, though.

which uses lots of the guts of firefox and renders using the same standards is a way better browser for OSX, but for the PC and all the hassles with IE, firefox is a brilliant new option.

34. Actually they use different rendering engines.
Safari uses KDE's KHTML rendering engine. And FireFox and Camino both use Gecko.

A link to a cool article on how to build a web browser using WebKit, the built-in rendering engine based on KHTML.

13. Explorer would freeze on me at least once a day. Firefox doesn't.
And it is faster.

I have dialup (with that accellerator thing) and Firefox moves much faster than Explorer did.

Like it better than Avant, too, tho I did like Avant.

29. I like it, but I have some minor problems now and then
Mainly, two things. One, sometimes it freezes or stalls, and I can't get it to respond-- usually happens involving a plug-in. When this happens, I have to reboot. It may be clashing with something else I'm running.

Two, I can't drag the borders to adjust the size of the frames on some web pages I frequent.

It doesn't seem any faster to me, but I have fewer popups than with Explorer, and seems like fewer spyware and trojans.

Anyone know anything about Opera?

43. I'm Using Opera.
From what I can gather from descriptions of Firefox, they're very similar. Tabbed browsing, fast page rendering, pop-up blocking, etc. Oper'a got customizable toolbars, too, which is a particular favorite feature. it also has a "personal information" area where you can store your name, address, etc. and then use that to populate web forms when necessary.

I don't know that Opera has the add-ins like Firefox does though - I keep my web surfing pretty basic, so I tend not to worry too much about that stuff.

As with any non-IE browser, I sometimes have to bail out of Opera, hold my nose and use IE to browse a particular site - especially microsoft.com, surprise surprise. CNN.com will periodically give me a weird page render in Opera, but nothing I can't live with.

I haven't had any problems with Opera hanging and it certainly works fine for DU.

Let me know if there are any specific questions re: Opera and I'll see if I can get an answer for you.

40. Reformed browser-whore
I have always been a browser-whore. Moving from one to the other, leaving one for the other without as much as a 'thank you'. Very promiscuous and naughty. It's okay cause they were slow and clunky, and had grown too big for their britches.

Then I met Firefox. She's fast, has very few hang-ups, and very simple. A sort of open source hippie chick without the hairy armpits.

I am no longer a browser-whore, I am happy.

Get Firefox, and get happy.

45. You won't hear any, here.
I even talked my husband into trying Firefox -- he didn't like Mozilla because it had more 'stuff' than he wanted, but eventually somebody else told him they liked Firefox, so he downloaded it and really likes it.

I've been using Mozilla at home for a couple of years now, in fact since Netscape 7.0 came out and I didn't like it because it was bloated; I hung with the 4.x version of Netscape I had until I stumbled on Mozilla, and I've been using it ever since.

Apparently, it's not the same 'tarball' for Mozilla and Firefox, at least not anymore, though I think it may have been at one time. Firefox has branched off on the development tree, and the development arc is different from Mozilla's now; Mozilla's development scheme is to provide a full-featured package like Netscape (only less bloated), and Firefox's is to provide a screaming, slimmed down browser-only alternative (possibly for those who use MS Outlook and can't or don't want to change their mail application).

I've been using Firefox on the computer at work because it's faster than IE, and you can set it up to kill popups. I look up numbers or addresses on sites like Switchboard (which throws about six popups at you every time you access a page) a lot, and even the Google toolbar on IE (which the IT guy already had installed, I didn't download it myself) didn't take care of all the popups. The day the popup was a Bush campaign ad was the day I downloaded Firefox, and I haven't had IE open again since.
