Poll question: Is the new flashing LOL Avatar a threat?
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 05:00 AM by Tweed
I think the new flashing LOL avatar is a huge threat not to mention annoying. Anyone who has epilepsy could have a seizure just by opening up a thread. As a result, DU could end up getting sued as providing the avatar. The question of whether or not someone consented to the avatar is up for grabs, but it's something DU shouldn't risk. It's also something that other DUers shouldn't have to deal with. Just like we don't allow sexual avatars, we shouldn't allow other avatars that people generally take offense too. I may be overreacting here. For anyone else who has seen the new avatar, please vote.

2. Obviously you have voted in your own poll seven times
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 05:11 AM by bloodyjack
Natheless, I changed it and you should be seeing a b/w photo of Edith Piaf

Was this really worth its own thread? Of course one might ask whether or not my LOLOLOL avatar deserved its own thread, but still.

4. You can only vote in any poll once
There are two replies so far that are against and many replies in your thread that are against it too. I'm not attacking you, I'm attacking the avatar. I can understand why someone might think it's cool, but it's potentially dangerous.

3. It looks like a cheap internet animation
I do like cheap, nutty, poorly planned, and poorly executed internet animation. But I like it WHEN I AM LOOKING FOR IT! That new avatar is HORRIBLE! Burn it! Burn it!

:nuke:

5. It hurts my fucking eyes
All joking aside, Worst. Avatar. Ever. Might as well add the blinking tag to every subject line.

13. One - It's not official. Two - we don't need any fucking Avatar police
Three - sue the animated gif software manufacturer
Four - Don't surf any other messageboards, they all have one form of animated gif or another
Five - Try the "Stop" button
Six - I hope to God this is sarcasm, or a copycat thread - because otherwise it's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen on DU
Seven - I need to take a shower now

16. With Avant Browser, I Can Right-Click ANY Image...
and designate it as an "ad" that will always be filtered (never displayed). It's been very useful for some of the LARGER signature-line images.

PS Where is this "stop" button you mention? I can use the ESC button to halt animated gifs... is that the one?

17. I use Avant too - and it ~doesn't~ work in Firefox :D
Just click the regular X or Stop loading button - it stops all animated gifs in their tracks.

(typically just to the left of the refresh button)
