What is the obsession with Sponge Bob Squarepants?
I can understand kids being into this show so damn much, but adults?!?!? I seen a 27 year old woman with spongebob seat covers in her car.
:wtf:
Personaly I liked fairly odd parents when it was on tv, some of the humor I could relate too, but maybe I'm missing the point on Sponge Bob.

3. I love SpongeBob. It's something I can actually enjoy with my kids.
He's harmless. Why did adults like Ren and Stimpy is my question. :hi:

5. It's a pretty good cartoon...
It's no Simpsons or anything like that, but it's fairly funny and can be enjoyed by both kids and adults.

6. I can relate to Patrick -- the starfish character
Very dopey and lives under a rock!

My three nieces and I are anxiously awaiting the movie.

8. Sponge Bob is nice and funny and ...
believe it or not, hip. One episode had SB and Patrick having to wait on Squidward hand and foot. They were carrying him to a shady spot.Since he complains all the time he said, "Too hot." "Too cool." "Toulouse-Lautrec." <rimshot> and the drawing was in the style.

I know it's a lot of set up for a visual gag that lasts maybe 10 seconds but it's grownup humor in the tradition of the Flintstones and The Simpsons.

And it's clean and friendly, too. Unlike the Fairly Odd Parents which my kids (7, 4, 2) aren't allowed to watch because, in fact, it's pretty vicious.

10. It is hilarious-not really a kids show IMHO
A buddy of mine turned me on to it. His son of course HAD to watch it and I just about busted a lung laughing at it.

The "Employee Training film" episode is not only funny it really explains labor issues and American management to a TEE.

11. My funny bone must not be in tune...I don't get it either
I applaud adults who don't let convention get in the way of what they like though. If I did like spongebob, I wouldn't mind having spongebob seat covers. But, I just don't think it's funny. Give me Animaniacs dammit. I know all the presidents in order thanks to that show...

26. I miss Rocko, Hef, and Filbert
Those were the funniest characters, but there was an inherent grossness to the show that turned off some older viewers.

16. He's such a lovable dork; I identify with him...
I used to love watching the original Looney Tunes, too. There was that bit of adult humor that went right over kids' heads that made them hilarious to adults (I think Foghorn-Leghorn is my favorite). Kids usually just found them funny because of the physical/visual comedy. Spongebob is a lot like that, too.

He's on my mouse pad!

Anyone else really miss Pinky and the Brain?

17. Beats me
I don't get it either. Maybe if I had kids and sat through every episode, I would gain a better appreciation. The times I've been over at my nephew's house and its been on, it was absurd, colorful and quirky, but not something as great as its hype.

He does seem to have a terminally optimistic outlook. Something that Prozac, Wellbutrin, etc etc etc haven't been able to do for me!

20. hmmm SpongeBob vs Fairly Odd Parents. That's a hard one
They're both great (although the seat cover thing is ridiculous). I wouldn't have a clue about any of these cartoons if I wasn't a parent though. Another good one is Power Puff Girls. :)

21. We love SPSP
My kids, my hubby and me. The episode where he is trying to get Gary the snail to take a bath and he calls the French Restaurant, saying "Hello, Fancy French Restaurant, I have a naughty snail here who won't take a bath", well we were howling.

22. It's a funny show if you've ever been an outcast....
and most people have. It's got some very adult undertones to it. And Sandy Cheeks is a lesbian.

23. I'll admit, I don't get the adults who are OBSESSIVELY into it...
But I think it's hysterical. I see it as a Bugs Bunny or Animaniacs for this wee generation. A lot of the jokes are far too subtle for kids to really understand, as they're really intended for adults. Lots of obscure pop culture and music references.

(Hey, anybody remember the time Animaniacs quoted one measure of Schubert's "Erlkonig" in a chase scene?)

27. You know what really annoys me?
The fact that, whenever a new childrens movie comes out, every fucking product has the likeness of the movie on it. For example, I see nothing but that god-damned Spongebob Squarepants on everything! On wrappers at fast food joints, toys, watches, etc.! And when next week rolls around, you won't see anymore Spongebob stuff. It'll be something else.
