I am so frustrated.
After the election I decided to get my butt back in gear on my losing weight. So Thursday the 4th I started working out & really watching what I eat again. I weighed myself last Thursday & I had lost almost 4lbs. I weighed myself today & I've gain back 1 of those.
I have been working out ever day & eating much better. I know one pound, one day is not going to kill me, but it bummed me out.

2. That is standard.
Your original weight loss was water weight mixed with some fat loss. You have very likely lost more fat and gained some muscle, which is heavier. If you continue with your program, any weight from here forward is likely pure fat. Most people's problem is that they give up at this point. That would be a mistake.

3. Don't let it get you down

consistency is the key! Keep working out, make a habit of eating sensibly and the weight will melt off (think of how great you'll look in the spring).

Just in time to start walking in parades and door knocking (wearing shorts of course) and working on municipal elections...we must rebuild this country from the bottom up!!!

4. Don't let it get you down
All the working out you're doing is probably building muscle - which weighs more than fat. It's entirely possible that you've just built up your muscle while you've lost fat - I like to let my clothes tell me how my dieting is going.

At any rate - the goal is better health right? Don't let the scale get you down! you're awesome just for working out to make yourself better.

6. Don't go so much by the scale...
...go by how you feel and how your clothes fit. The water in your body will always be reflected in your weight, muscle weighs more than fat, etc..

If you are being more active and eating better, you should feel great about that. The numbers mean very little compared to that. And if you keep being more active and eating better, your body WILL come along.

Throw out the scale. It's just there to drive you crazy.

:)

7. I don't own a scale
I once had a scale that registered half pounds and I got obsessed with it. Very unhealthy.

I now gauge my weight by how my clothes fit and how my body looks in the mirror. Your weight is just a number - it's how you look and feel that matters.

8. depending on the kind of workout you do
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 01:37 PM by sui generis
you might be putting on muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so by "redistributing" you might still be losing girth while getting fit.

If you think that's not the case, make sure for weight loss that you are getting cardio a minimum of 3 times a week for thirty minutes or more, and you have to push yourself to be just barely "breathless" but not gasping for air in order for your cardio workouts to be "fat burners".

Also, make sure you have done an overall reduction in the total number of calories in your diet. Finally, change your eating times -- if you eat early in the morning and again early lunch and a very light supper with at least two hours before you go to bed, you will lose weight (girth).

It's people who eat thirty minutes before they hit the sack or have big evening meals that have a hard time losing because your body stores everything more efficiently while you sleep.

10. Thanks everyone, I knew DUers would make me feel better.
I told myself everything you are all saying, it just helps to hear it from others.
I have gotten back to my old schedule, that I stopped about 10 weeks before the election. I do cardio and lift weights for upper body one day, Cardio & lower body the next day, pilates & kick boxing the 3rd. Then I start all over again.

11. Guess what?
I am under many docs close scrutiny (after cancer) I am seeing a nutritionist, who suggested I cut out a lot of the foods I was eating (OK food. She says I was self-medicating with cheese.) I have; I am not eating 4-8ozs of cheese every day, I'm not even eating it every day! I changed out my 'cheese delivery system' (cornchips) from fried to baked. I have even have surgery since my visit with her. So let's see, I have cut fats, sugar, reduced over all intake and increased activity-I have gained 3-5 lbs. And no. I don't think it's muscle mass. Sometimes our bodies are just bastards.
Keep up the good work. If you have an area where you can cut simple sugars, you WILL be rewarded with weight loss!

Good luck. :hi:

13. muscle has more mass than fat
if you are creating muscle while you burn fat the weight won't be "lost" but redistributed.

Don't worry. Concentrate on shape not loss.
