Age check thread
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 11:08 PM by Bat Boy
For the record, I'll talk to anyone on DU, regardless of age. I particularly like to see under eighteen DUer's taking an active roll in politics.

When I was younger there were times I felt my ideas and opinions were discounted solely on the basis of my age. I remember how frustrating that was. Well let people know who you are, so we can all be amazed by your brilliance!

So check in folks!

For the record, I am 43. Today. And yes, that's a cheap and tawdry way of getting people to say "Happy Birthday" to me. I'm shameless and proud of it!

4. Happy Birthday, you cheap, tawdry thing you!
I'm older than you and when I was younger I got thrown out of my house because of my opinions. Sadly, so much time has passed I can't remember why it was so important to Dad/Mom/me. Caused quite a rift. It was one of those 'I own this house and while you live under my roof..." kind of things.

13. Happy Birthday!
I am 34 years old.

And I like the fact that teenagers here are treated respectfully for the most part. They have something to say, too. And I love it when I see adults treat teenagers like the adults-in-training that they are.

We need more kids to be politically aware and active. And know their history. I wish I had been more so at that age.

I always hated forums where the teenagers were chased off with insults about their age. Made the adults look REAL mature. NOT.

21. I would have killed for something like this when I was a teen
I used to join political groups and attend protests as a matter of course. I was often the only person my age there. I craved intelligent discussions about politics and world events and desperately wanted to my views to be taken seriously.

I was lucky, in that none of the adults in those situations felt it was beneath them to discuss and debate issues with a teenager. They were happy that there were teenagers that gave a shit. They took the time to have real conversations with me and it's made a huge difference in my life.

Yes, everytime I run into teenagers at meetups or campaign meetings or rallies or whatever, I make it a point to introduce myself to them and make them feel welcome. They are the future.

Me, I'm somwhere between 33 and 35. Can't say it out loud.

My baby sister is 18 and I keep trying to get her to sign up here but she's a stubborn little cuss. Maybe if I nag her some more. hee
Actually, I've stopped that. She's a "grown-up" now and I'm more and more impressed with the strong, intelligent young woman she's turned into. We don't always agree but we listen to and respect each other. She has (and some of her friends, even!) given me a lot of hope for the future.
