My 100th post! Now, how about a photography group? |
|
My 100th post :bounce: a little milestone I know, but cool.
I also got my star next to my name. :bounce: :toast: :bounce:
Now that I can join groups on DU, anyone interested in starting a photography group. I'm thinking a place where we can share and post photographs of our own, if anyone thinks that's a good idea.
I'm more of an amateur, just for fun shutterbug, but I'm sure there must be one or two pros out their who might like to share their knowledge.
So what do you all say?

2. Photography is a big hobby of mine. |

Just an amateur here, but I think I have a pretty good eye for composition.
I'd love to get tips and feedback from fellow DU'ers.

But I got to go to bed. I want to kick this up so people on the west coast can see it. I still need eight more people. Surely there must be some other camera people out there.

Looks like we got eleven interested parties, enough needed to propose this group to the mods.

I'm going to kick this up again to see if I get anymore interested DUers.
I guess we also need to talk manifesto...
It should be a group for the discussion and appreciation of photography as an art, skill and means of communication.
The group should be open to both amateurs and professionals in hope that they may share ideas, stories, techniques, and of course photographs.
I think it should be non-political group for fun and enlightenment--political and editorial photographs should continue to be discussed in their appropriate forums.
Photographs can be either digital or traditional film based--we don't discriminate.
Anything else anyone want to add/take away?
I'm also curious if a someone with a somewhat high post count than my self would be interested in volunteering to approach the mods with this one, I'm not sure if little old me would be taken seriously...
Thanks everyone.

Anybody else want to chime in?

Thank you!
I'll be sending all of you out a email so that you can approve or disapprove the mission statement I drafted.
You can read it here if you like, since some of you don't have email enabled...
As someone who expressed some interest in a photography group on DU, I’m sending out this message regarding my proposal for a manifesto/ mission statement.
I’ll probably send it out to the mods Sunday giving everyone a couple of days to review it.
Simply contact me by saying approve, or if you want changes or alterations, just let me know.
“The DU photography group will be a place for the discussion of photography as an art, skill, and means of communication.
It will be open to both amateurs and professionals in hopes that they may share ideas, stories, techniques, and of course photographs.
It will be a non-political, more for fun, forum. Discussions of political or editorial photographs should continue to be posted in their appropriate forums.
Photographers can be either digitally based, or traditional film based--we don’t discriminate.”
I'll probably send it out to the mods Sunday, unless, of course anyone else wants to volunteer.

23. I would love to join a photo group |
|
However, when I proposed the graphics group, I thought it should be included in that group. But if enough people want a separate group and can support it, that would be great.

24. Not a graphic artist myself. |
|
When I looked at the list of groups, and saw "Graphics" I thought it meant more like computer Graphics or web design--something I know nothing about--so I didn't even bother to check it out.
Maybe if my proposal for a photography group fails, I'll give it a good look-see...
An asides the point, why is there no "artists" group, for the more passionate visual arts (painting, sculpture, crafts)--something I do know something about...
There's a writers group (which I've checked out--and liked!) but no artists group?
I'm not proposing it here, but maybe if someone else wants to take a crack at it--I'd be willing to join.
I'm still tried from working on the photography group.

Count me in. I guess I'm a semi-pro since I make some money on the side with my photography. Hope to increase that over the next year or so.

We are both enthusiasts, and shoot regularly. Between the two of us, we shoot medium format (Hassy), 35mm, and digital... not to mention my penchant for the toy cameras (Holgas, Dianas, etc...)
We are tired of the photography forums and would love to share and learn from our friends at DU.
