Are you a dog person or a cat person?
Dog people are different from cat people I've observed. Noticed quite a lot of writer types seem to prefer cats. Care to identify some other differences?

5. Dog person
I suppose I'm slightly bipetal, as I have a cat and two dogs, but the cat's status in the household is definitely subdog. He doesn't seem to mind.

And I'm a writer. Go figure.

12. Cat person who also loves dogs.
I don't know why I gravitate toward cats, setting aside the fact that they're relatively low maintenance. I think they're beautiful. Mysterious. Graceful. And yet hilarious. They constantly make me laugh. Of course dogs do too, but dogs--or a lot of dogs, anyway--have a poignancy... or a patheticness, actually, (since cats can also be poignant and heartbreaking), that cats don't have. That's it. I don't find cats pathetic. I can almost feel that they're equals. I think a lot of cat people feel this way, because one thing we cat people do is let our animals be where they want to be. We feel guilty about knocking them off chairs where we want to sit. We'd rather sit on the floor than move a cat from her resting place.

16. Cats know when a dog person comes over
They just do. You know what I mean.
Basically, I love cats. I have two "Jesus" and "Gatias", Spanish pronunciation of each name. My kids also have a dopey dog that comes over at times, and makes things interesting. Independence, irreverent, funny, sexy. All these words apply to cats. Some will spend all day chasing their tail, and running around like clowns, but then they's snuggle in your lap at night as your watching tv, look up and give you bedroom eyes. Dogs are ok, but I think they rankle some cat people because some dogs, not all, are somewhat misbehaved, jumping on you, licking you, being attention hogs. Others tend to drool. It's just so not copasetic. The analogy is people who love soccer and it's, subtlety, artisty, imagination, and changes of pace, and people who love American football who are enchanted with the power, force, chicanery, and spectacle inherent to that sport. You can enjoy both, but you can only love one. No?

13. Dog person...
Cats are like Republicans:

1) Cats hate 'RATs...
2) They are selfish.
3) They are not rubbing on your leg out of friendship, they're marking you with their glands...
4) They are known to hang out with some real witches..
5) They like to be worshipped...
6) They don't like you reading the newspaper...
7) It sounds like they have really horrible sex...
Bonus- I never heard of a cat saving someone's life unless self-interest was involved!

Dogs are like Democrats:
1) Dogs don't understand why cats don't like them...
2) They invented brown-nosing...
3) They are loyal friends. No one is ever happier to see you come home...
4 )They are at home with Bums or Kings...
5) They will follow to the ends of the earth...
6) They will only go on the paper when you lay it down...
7) They'll have sex with anything, and then they are stuck with the consequences...
Bonus- I've heard of dogs saving lives at the expense of their own.

Furthermore, a dog will pine away and die when their heart is broken. Contrariwise, cats have no heart to break.

29. I have to disagree about cats having no heart.
A Russian blue I had absolutely refused to eat when I went on my honeymoon. She never ate a bite until I came home. My mother said that Smokey pined for me the whole time and slept on my bed. When I came home and got her, she immediately returned to normal. So, cats DO have hearts.

22. Absolutely!
We have one of each, a black cat with one white spot on his front leg named Pepper (the cat, not the leg), and a Great Pyrenees named Bear. Both saved from death row at the shelter!

Bear still hasn't figured out that he weighs 120 lbs MORE than the cat....

and I don't like cats at all. I especially love big dogs, Rottweilers, German Shepards, Retrievers (Golden or Lab), Bernese Mountain Dogs, Newfoundlands, etc.

I actually like them better than people (in general). Nothing makes me happier than a big dopey dog - it just brightens my day!

I especially love puppies!

25. Kitties!
It's not that I don't like dogs, I just don't get along with them as well. I love the independent nature of cats-- but I also love that, when treated properly-- they have undying love for their owners. I love having my kitties sleep with me and wake me up in the morning with kitty kisses. And purring is the best sound in the whole world.

32. I have one of each. I love them both the same. I get
an equal amount of entertainment from each, equal affection, except my cat kisses me in the mouth more than my dog (I could live without that btw), but slightly more aggravated by my dog who has excited bladder syndrome. I don't thoroughly trust anybody that doesn't like animals, is that unfair of me?

I can't stand dogs. They are so subservient and messy. While cats aren't as demonstrative as dogs, they have a quiet, inner beauty that appeals to me.

Another bird person!!

I have a CAG, Quaker, cockatiel and sun conure.

All boys!

Hey, what other pet says, "Mama's home!!" when you walk in the door??

What other animal pretends to love you up, then craps on you, flies away and yells "Oh Curley!! You did a doody on me!" and laughs hysterically.

Oh yeah, birds.

37. I like most animals ...
... but I am partial to dogs.

I like cats, too, but I really don't like cat fetishism. Just take a look at how many DU names incorporate the word "cat" or something similar!

Assigning meaning to an animal is a kind of superstition, and we're a superstitious-enough culture already.

46. I love dogs, but I am just drawn to cats...
The way they move, their inquisitive ways, their independence, their cleanliness, their silliness...I can't articulate it very well -- I am just crazy about cats, and it's mutual. It's as if I speak their language, or something. I often find myself just observing our cats as they go about whatever they're doing, and as I look at them, I feel an abiding sense of understanding and respect.

If you've earned the love and trust of a cat (and they do require some "cultivation"), you have a cross-species friend for life, and that's something to treasure.
