Another weird tale of my childhood - not so creepy this time |
|
For this story, I was 11, but again, I looked older. We (my family) were coming back from Hawaii.
We were on a red-eye Ward-air flight. It was a half full 747. I sat with my parents for a while, and then I decided to wonder. I wasn't a shy kid, and I was very used to adult company. My brothers are much older than I am.
I ended upstairs in this lounge area. We were all swapping stories. This guy asked me to have dinner with him. I did. He was 18. Dinner was fun. He started to tell me about all the great drugs you could buy in the Islands. This kind of freaked me out a bit. I excused myself.
I went about and made friends with other people, shared some pie, played some cards. During the course of my wondering I noticed a certain smell coming out of the bathroom. You could still smoke on planes then. Eventually, I found my way back to my assigned seat.
Later on that night, I was walking toward the front of the plane when I heard 'my friend' yelling out my name, and stumbling down the aisle. "yvr girl, yvr girl?" I hurried back to my seat and hid behind my In Flight magazine.
He didn't spot me, and kept running toward the back of the plane. I decided that my only course of action was to hide in the bathroom for the rest of the flight. Unfortunately, he turned around and saw me. I was stuck. We had a little chat under the watchful eyes of the ENTIRE cabin. I died a thousand deaths. My dad was FREAKING OUT. Finally, it was over, he left. I only needed to avoid him for the rest of the flight.
I did risk seeing him one last time though. I got a chance to go into the cockpit at dawn. It was way cool.

4. Yeah, the older one's creepier. |
|
It's a little bit complicated though, because this newer one does have a drug element in it.
I remember when I was in high school, and I'd run errands for school projects with girls in my class and stuff, having this impression that it was weird how much they'd get hit on by much older guys when we'd be at like the convenience store and stuff.

...it was also weird how I could pretty much tell they were being hit on, and they didn't seem to think so.

2. Ah, the good 'ol days of Wardair... |
|
...when the upper deck of a 747 was open to all for lounging and cocktails, and you could still twist one up in the washroom with no hassles. (My sister was a Wardair fight attendant...they had a generous travel pass plan for immediate family back then.)
While you were sitting on the Captain's knee in the cockpit, did he happen to ask you if "that 18yo boy" liked "gladiator movies"?
Sound's like harmless fun on vacation to me...

6. I'm glad I got experience the good ol' days a bit |
|
Didn't get an actual cocktail. Clearly I didn't think I could pass for 19.

You are just ooging me out today.
Don't get me wrong. I'm amused.
And very ooged out.

8. Holidays when I was a teenager were interesting |
|
You haven't even heard the Mexico stories yet. I'll have to let you know about some of my Mayberry moments too.

9. My late childhood was filled with stories like yours |
|
I figured things like that happened to everybody. I always looked older than my age, too; an early bloomer.
