What Was The Last Thing You Lost or Misplaced? |

Does this happen very often? How long was it missing?

Almost every morning as I leave for work, or in the evenings or weekends when The Princess and I want to go somewhere, I have to search for my keys...

I lost my car keys two days ago. If anyone has a recent car with the laser-cut keys (and embedded chips) I suggest you make sure your spare is in a safe place. It's not like the old days, it's a HUGE pain in the arse.

It's the only time it's ever happened, but it's lasted over half the marriage, which is thus far a good seven years.
As for stuff like keys, I'm fine. :D

Two weeks ago, I paid for movie tickets with my bank debit/credit card and dropped it in the lobby. I didn't even realize it was missing until two days later, prompting a frantic strip-search and ransacking of my residence & automobile. I then called the bank, who assured me that nothing had been purchased with it since the movie tickets, but I canceled the card anyway. When the theater opened that afternoon, I called the manager; fortunately, a good samaritan had given the card to the box office cashier...whew! I'm still waiting for a new debit card, but it's worth the wait, considering that debit cards aren't subject to the same laws as credit cards when they're stolen. Banks aren't nearly so eager to limit liability when it's YOUR money that's being stolen - not THEIRS.
There's more than one moral to this story:
1. Don't treat your valuables casually - especially those as small as a bank card.
2. Always start at the last place you remember using something; it usually holds the clues you need.
3. No matter how cynical you become regarding human nature, someone will always come along and surprise you by performing a good deed.

The last thing I seriously lost was an excel file at work that is a Canadian Customs invoice. Made my work life hell trying to find it. It turned out that I'd overwritten the file, which is very, very unusual for me.
Before that it was my jacket. That has been happening more and more lately, and I think is directly related to the fact that I live in an old house that has one closet. One.
Before that, it was the dog's halti collar. That was missing for a month, which was hell - nothing like having a 60 lb dog walk YOU. Found it in the backseat of husband's car.

Finally found them 2 weeks later. But it was a pain having to get replacements in the meantime. Luckily, I had a spare car key.
