wonderfully sunny day with the windows open and remarkably little hurricane in sight, blasting this delicious 3cd set of nofi bliss.
THREE endless, totally different versions of "Sister Ray"! A version wherein Reed explains it a little: "this is gonna go on for a while." An almost narcotic rendition of "Waiting for the Man" with tons of improvised verses... 17 minute "Follow the Leader" guitar meltdown! Odd versions of 1st album songs without Cale, and yet for once I don't mind as much...
"and it was alright."
Buy or DIE!

1. Thank god for Robert Quine! |

Certainly the only lawyer with enough foresight to record this unpopular band when they were at their least popular. Let's hope more of this stuff gets released.

I want that mostly-unreleased live 1968 tape that Cale has... I want more Cale in general, I want violent viola attacks, an organ demolished over the course of "What Goes On," demented bass lines played by an incurably Welsh deviant!
I want anything from the EPI shows, Nico wailing, 30 minute "Melody Laughter" noodlings and caustic feedback!
I wanna hear Zappa and Reed bitchin' each other out at the Fillmore! Two genius-types on a bill that sounds soooo good, yet apparently resulted in much goofiness.
CHOKE! COUGH! SPUTTER!
if there isn't a volume 2 & 3, I'll start doing bad VU covers again. Oh, who am I kidding. I still sneak at least a short version of "Sister Ray" whenever I get together with musicos.
