It's a Wonderful Life - Scene where George Bailey wore Black Arm Band |
|
Historical significance?
I noticed this for the first time the other night.
Scene after his father had stroke and he'd taken over Building and Loan, but is looking forard to college.
He has black armband on suit-jacket. After leaving meeting room, he puts on coat, which also has black armband.
What would the armband be representing? WWI?
As many times as I've seen this movie, this is the first time I've noticed the armbands.

5. A lost ritual. And that was probably a good one. |
|
People don't get time to mourn anymore.
It seems we're now expected to be fully functional within 10 days or less after losing a loved one.
It may have been healthier to outwardly acknowledge loss for a longer period.
Plus.
Perhaps.
This acknowledgement would give people a clue to be kinder than average, and to understand if the person teared up unexpectedly.

6. I have a black ribbon tied into a bow an attached to my Kerry |
|
bumper sticker on my dashboard. People crossing in front of me, or driving toward me notice it and sometimes I get a thumbs-up.
My way of mourning.
