Anyone see the movie Underworld?
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 08:36 PM by Blue_Chill
Holy cow is that movie kick ass. Best way I can describe it is Matrix meets vampire movie. Wow. I saw it at the Hoffman theater in Alexandria which has a HUGE screen and MASSIVE sound system. I came out of the theater with a ear to ear smile.

Also the racial and economic undertones were not lost on me. Werewolf's seem to represent the lower class and the vampires the higher class.

1. Yes and I will say this
I am sorry but it reminded me a tad too much of
White Wolf's World of Darkness, way too many elements
from that world in there... good music, good special
effects, but... I could tell the story from word go.

6. I was waiting for a reaction from someone who knew about WW
WW and Nancy Collins are both suing the makers of "Underworld".

2. Eh
I loved the premise and most of the basic plot. But as always it relied too much on a beautiful leading lady (even though she did a smashing job) and special effects. I was dissapointed with some elements of it. They could have done a lot more with it I thought.

Oh and I saw it at the Loews In Georgetown, K Street.

4. bah! (alert: spoiler)
The last guy looked kind of stupid, but that was the only disappointing feature to me. I even loved the Resident Evil 2 preview. :D

5. that preview did look interesting (more spoilers)
and you're right, Victor sucked once he got his powers back. His Line "I Loved my daughter!" made everyone in the theatre (packed) laugh out loud. The death of victor was just stupid, no way it took that long for him to realize he was dead.

I guess he was my biggest problem. I loved Lucius and Selene. Michael seemed like a lost baby.

I'd still recommend it, but I had high expectations as someone who is very interested by vampire mythology

7. Agreed (spoilers)
However I knew Lucius had to go. Think about it, if you are going to establish a new order you can't have the guys that caused the conflict in the first place still running about.

Victors ight scene was great but he should have died instantly when she carved him up.

Also what did you make of the final scene where the sleeping vamps eyes turnblack from absorbing werewolf blood? I thought only the very pathetic Michael could do that.

8. Of Course (more spoilers of course)
But why did it take 4 shootings of the instant death to kill him. He got the blood from michael but he couldn't have been *that* strong.

As for the last scene. Vampires would reawaken whenever they get a new injection of blood (basically freeze dried vampire, just add blood). So if Marcus' body did absorb the blood he would have at least partially reawoken. The fact that it was Lichen blood may have some sort of mutating effect, since its been shown that the blood of the two species was not as different as Victor (the racist) kept the offical history saying it was. that is important to him because it casts heavy doubt on the superiority of the vampires over the day-guardian Lichen and the pure-blood of the Vampires. If the hidden truth can be got out to the vampires and werewolves perhaps an uneasy cease-fire could be achieved

They definitely left it open for a sequel by leaving a lot of questions unanswered and posing new quirks like the WW scientist's blood awakening Marcus.
