Poll question: Salvation Army
Do I give, or not give? If so, why? If not, why?

1. Used to give to SA and other charities but.....
this year I have decided to give up on giving except for my local animal shelter which I annually put together some boxes of needed items like bleach, paper towels, litter, dog and cat food and such. I am torn but feel that all these religious and faith based type org screwed this country and me so let * take care of them!! It feels heartless to think this way considering they are helping people who really need it but I don't feel like contributing to them anymore.

3. I think you could do a lot worse than give to the SA
They are highly visible in some communities and really do help out a lot of people. I don't agree with everything they do, but I trust them to use the money better than a lot of other groups.

If you're looking for a charity, check this out:

4. A lot of SA goes to administration costs (m)
I can't remember the name of the position, but the people who head it up get a large cut.

May I suggest sponsoring the adoption fee or spay/neuter fee for an animal at your local animal shelter?

They do a LOT of very essential charity work in my area: food banking, housing vouchers, utility payments, etc. .
